In my opinion in this generation of consoles anything can happen. How many times have we over exaggerated some things, and how many times we underestimated some circumstances ?? From the story behind the PS3 to the success of Wii.

The XBOX360 reached is peak year, 5 years from launch and the kinect, an affordable gadget  is selling like hot cakes. 

Do you believe that for the first time in consoles history the second console can hit the 100 MILLION mark ????

Hmmm... I say no. There's just not enough time left before nexgen, even if it is 2 years away.

If kinect is a big succes yes. But like Xen stated, there isn't enough time until the next gen. I think it'll be around 80m units

i hope all 3 consoles do that would be nice. and I only see nintendo bringing a new console anytime soon. The ps3 will last a while and i dont think microsoft willbring a new console anytime in the next 2-3 years considering how kinect is booming.

and MS arnt going to stop the 360 when Kinect has done so well! if Kinect dies down alot by next xmas then no because MS will bring the XBOX3 out at xmas 2012

Logically, MS will kill it when the demand becomes low... it'd be pretty cool to see the 360 become the new PS2 one day. And yet, still, I don't expect it to nail 100mil. That's a very long ways away still!

if i had to make a guess i would say it has maybe a 30% chance of doing it. Im basing that on simply kinect becomes even more successful than it already is. As Xen stated this gen is slowly coming to a close (with the 8th gen hand-helds making there appearance).

I belive that the PS3 will last out long enough to hit 100 million (just) because of its blu-ray player. In 3 or so years time it will basically be a very cheep blu-ray player that also does digital and games. The wii defiantly will.

Hmmm, this is hard to say.  Kinect has really re-invigorated the platform I think and if (a big IF) Microsoft can deliver the software to satisfy both it's Kinect customers and Core customers then I think it will sell strong enough for the next 2 years to make a run at 100M over it's life possible.

Assumptions used while thinking about this:

• New XBOX will not be released for at least 2 years.
• Kinect stays a relevant product and increases it's own userbase.
• That Microsoft will NOT pull the 360 from shelves in it's strong territories, once the new Xbox is on the market.

It's just too unlikely IMO.

For it to happen it would need next gen to start no earlier than xmas 2013 (likely anyway). Even so ...

That is pretty much best case scenario, unless a Kinect AND 360 price cut really spur sales beyond belief and a $99 360 has a big legacy in the states.

It has an outside chance but I think 85 mill is a better target.

some people here seem to think as soon as microsoft releases their 8th generation console they will kill off the 360. yes i think it can reach 100 mill
