All these things are available on $600 cutting edge phones, not the $300 phones.

As Grimes said above me, the iPhone 4 does not cost $300. Also, I'm certainly hoping that the PSP2 has significantly more processing power, a longer battery life and a better web browser.

Having said that, you have to subtract the "apple surcharge"  (ie the price above the competition that people are willing to pay for an Apple product) from the iPhone's price, so it's not entirely impossible for the PSP2 to have similar specs and a reasonable price.

UMD? Are you serious?

Why not? It may not be the best storage medium but its certainly not the worst. If they could just get drive speeds faster it would be fine. And Backwards compatibility is fairly important. Especially seeing as quite a few games are still being pumped out for the PSP even over the next year or two. Do you really want the PSP2 to cut off all those fresh games?

Because UMD is dead. It's not gonna happen, just forget about it and move on.

And what about the physical medium itself makes it dead? Thats just something sites have been saying in reference to the software not selling and high pirate rates. Nothing about UMD really is a failure. I'm positive costs to make them are ridiculously low now and UMD is still harder to pirate then DD :P

UMD is not gonna happen, just give it up. A flash based solution will be what the PSP2 will use.

It's dead because what UMD was really trying to do is become used outside of the PSP. A BLU UMD would try to do the same.

It's not cost effective otherwise. Flash carts already have more space than UMD. And while a BLU UMD could potentially, currently, be cheaper than the same size flash cart, that won't last long, esepcially with the extra fees associated with that new standard.

It was a nice try by sony to try and create UMD, I kinda liked the idea in a sort of 20th century way, but its tech is now far inferior to current gen carts.

What we got.

1) dual analog nubs

2) NO UMD (hurray!)

3) cartridged based

4) touch screen on front _and_ touch area on back

5) camera on front _and_ back

6) no slide screen

7) the back can act as extra buttons for R2/L2

8) No 3D support

9) Dunno about battery life, I think it will be comparable to PSP, which is to say maybe better than 3DS

10) 3G support

11) PS Cloud which is to say PSN and Playstation Suite support

12) No apps as far as I can tell, but it will most probably have minis support, so indie developers can make games at least

13) Dunno if it will be an integrated PSN store or this new NGP social store thingy different from PSN altogether

14) Trophies look like they are supported

15) PS Plus looks like a go

16) Time will tell whether this gets more 1st and 3rd party support than the PSP did. Hope so, because this thing looks fucking awesome.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Well its still not going to cost anything near 600, stated by Sony rep in articles. Yet we do know it has to be more than 3DS($250) because otherwise the loss would be too great. Estimates put it around 300-350, like I said.

@ Zarx. Thx for posting actual specs.

@dharh

Nice, Well you were right about the UMD. They left it out this go around (Sadface :( ..) but they did say the system is backwards compatible. I just think they need to come up with some way to compensate those of us who supported UMD on the PSP. Now we have a library of games that can't be played on the new hardware, if I had known that I would have purchased the DD versions :/.

And many things from my list were spot on :). 3D support was left our(for now)but thats fine by me. I have heard rumblings that OLED screens could possibly pull off 3D with glasses of course.

As far as the game line up is concerned, its looking promising. We have no concrete idea which games are debuting with the console tho. They NEED all their big IPs to be ready by then. The new Uncharted, Killzone(Liberations 2?),Resistance, LBP. I am keeping an eye one some of there new stuff like Gravity Daze(looks sick), Smart As(Almost 90% sure this is there spin on BrainAge),Reality Fighter.

The NGP(PSP2) does indeed have two memory card slots if anyone needed clarity on that. One is for Games as the handheld's new medium. Other one is for extra storage. Although the system is said to also boast internal memory as well...i think.
