Donkey Kong country returns and Gran Turismo 5 were released at practically the same time. GT5 initially had the strongest WW sales but DK is slowly pulling it back at 70k-ish a week post holidays. Was catching it up a bit faster holiday-time. My question is simple. Does this community think DK or GT5 will have the highest sales when all is said and done? There is so many different permutations. DK has stronger sales in Americas and Japan but GT5 is mighty in EU/Others. PS3 titles seem to have higher openings and some Nintendo games have long legs! DKCR is showing signs of having longer legs, although it's early days and GT games, too seem to have legendary legs.

I think, personally GT5 will win out in the end, due to past sales history. Looks close at  moment though. About 1.3m and closing.

With the weekly sales as they are now DK has a long way to go to reach GT5- which isn't exactly a slouch in the legs department.

This begs the question of how are they comparable though?

OT: Unless this is the highest selling DK game, which isn't too far fetched, GT5 will have the higher lifetime. Still doesn't narrow the fact that DKC:R has performed much better than initial predictions.

Well, that's my point in a way. The highest selling game in the DKC franchise is 9.3m. If DKCR outperforms that and reaches 10m, it could be interesting. I know most GT's get past 10m but unless the PS3 userbase explodes, bar extensive bundling, i can't see GT5 doing much more than 10m.

Of course Nintendo fans will pick DKCR and Sony fans will most likely go for GT5, it's usually the solution.

I suppose we are in the post-holiday sales now and DK is slightly outselling GT5. However i'm not presuming for one moment that DK will have better legs long-term, as GT games are known for their mighty legs too. I can even see a situation where DK catches up sometime this year, only to be outlegged by GT5 in the long run.

DKCR will do better than GT5 in US though.
