Hes not saying that the 3DS will fail, hes saying that Nintendo in his opinion could have made even more money at a higher launch price that is all. Given the success of the Wii and the perenial shortages for two years he does have a point.

Then he's being an fool, which is not a good idea considering his job. It's been mentioned that Nintendo needs to set a reasonable market price and not rely on cut after cut. The Wii had one cut, and it's still in the lead.

How is he being a fool? Perhaps what he is saying is that Nintendo needs to set a higher price and then continue to add value and iterate on their platform over time, say with better 3D cameras, better screens etc to improve the 3DS' appeal to the wider audiences than to set a middling price which doesn't afford them the same margins to do just that. Pachter is a big Apple fanboy so hes probably thinking 'what would Apple do?' in this instance.

Marketing your product to have extremely high value, thus warranting a high price doesn't always work. Look at Sony and the PS3. "It's $600 for consumers because it cost $850 to produce because the Cell, Blu-ray, HD, wireless, free online, so on and forth".

By this apparent theory, the PS3 should have the most sales now

That's still being a fool, since he's applying fanboyism to business advice.

I don't think so. Hes just offering an opinion it isn't an official drafted report or anything like that.

Tease.

@lordtheknight  with all due respect to you sir, get out of here with those BS Tvs.C # ALL those other games are undertracked, there are not US or Euro #s for any of them. So Tvs.C is not the best selling one. Until you can find me some accurate #s Its still abysmal sales to me, especially considering SSF4 a glorified expansion sold so much better on just one console. and as far as the customers, since they are the ones complaining it is kind of their problem. Sometimes your just not going to get what you want in life. You think some HD owners wouldnt want to play TvsC??? of course they do, they just do cry as much

Let me put it this way. All 3 of my kids have a DS. Were purchased at $149.99.  None of my kids will be getting a 3DS any time soon if ever.

Oldest is 16 and he now does handheld gaming on his phone.

Middle is 13 and he does handheld gaming on his DS, but uses my phone alot as well. He will be getting his own phone before summer.  He barely uses his DS any longer.

9 year old still uses his DS and is happy with it.  By the time the price is right for the 3DS he will be ready for his own phone.

So I doubt very much that any of my kids will ever get a 3DS.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

BASICALLY pachter is saying that Nintendo has a monopoly and can charge whatever they want cause it will sell out and people will have to pay whatever they charge

he is a moron.  i have already discussed earlier on how this is not a good idea from a financial point of view, but lets also look at the other MAIN thing a company never wants to lose and wants to have.  And that is brand name.  Nintendo all of a sudden charging $1000 for shit will hurt their brand name, and peopel will think of htem as overpriced high end tech and not Mass Appeal anyone can have.

Half a million sales (since there are two versions) is abysmal? This isn't freakin' Haze. Wait, the sales are likely more, since you said all were undertracked.

And SS4 is part of the main SF series. The Vs games are not.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

That's an excellent point. Many DS sales went right to the hands of kids. At this price point this would be hard to most families and Pachter wishes Nintendo raised even more.

I guess Sony will regret the 350 $ price too, looking at the rumoured specifics for PSP2...lower battery life, higer price, not as great line up (it can have a MH game, but won't have 2 RE, 1 MGS, 1 KH and many other big exclusives all in the 1st year).

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

It'll be interesting to see how much the psp2 will cost. In a way Nintendo could be dooming Sony with the $250 price point.

@lordtheknight  I was talking that the sales of the other VS. games are undertracked, but im sure you already knew that, so why try to bring them in on this knowing that their #s are inaccurate just to make Tvs.C look better??? To be fair lets just take the japanese #s since all of those are tracked. Tvs.C not looking so hot now?? and your taking two different versions of the game to make it go to gold??? Why not just add the SSF4 sales to the regular SF4??? So what if its a VS game?? its a 2D fighter made by Capcom. What will be the excuse when Mvs.C3 craps all over Tvs.C???
