Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Will 'Regret' $249 Pricing on 3DS, says Pachter

Another point of being cheaper is that a good deal of those 50$ will go to extra games. Not only some of that will come back to Nintendo, but it'll improve attach ratio across the board for both first and third party games, improving the system's already good image with otherdevelopers and hopefully securing more investment from them and so more sales in the long term, both from hardware and software.

Around the Network

I think the price point is exactly where it needs to be.  True, Nintendo could have put it at $299 instead, but I think they'd have an extremely tough time justifying it to their target audience by pricing it the same as a Blu-Ray playing, multimedia capable, hi-def game console like the PS3 for example simply because one screen is capable of displaying 3D images sans glasses.

Don't forget... aside from the 3D screen and perhaps the 3D picture taking camera system, the 3DS is based on technology that is going on 10 years old (it's architecture is based on the Wii, which was based on the GameCube, which will be 10 years old in November).  So it's not like the 3DS's architecture is featuring bleeding-edge technology like the PS3 was when released, for example, so it's not like Nintendo is gonna be losing or barely making money off it at the $249 price point.

I can see Pachter's argument about the higher price point being better for investors... but investors don't buy game systems and software en masse... consumers do.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

@lordtheknight  I was talking that the sales of the other VS. games are undertracked, but im sure you already knew that, so why try to bring them in on this knowing that their #s are inaccurate just to make Tvs.C look better??? To be fair lets just take the japanese #s since all of those are tracked. Tvs.C not looking so hot now?? and your taking two different versions of the game to make it go to gold??? Why not just add the SSF4 sales to the regular SF4??? So what if its a VS game?? its a 2D fighter made by Capcom. What will be the excuse when Mvs.C3 craps all over Tvs.C???

You're claiming that two nearly identical version of the same game being combined is cheating? This site does it all the time.

And just claiming that those other games are undertracked is not enough. Where's the proof? And even if you give it, you still are lying when you say that half a million sales, or 400K for one version and 100K for another, is abysmal when a gam involves a company that's obscure in all but one market, and sold better OUTSIDE that market.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

giving my opinion of a matter is not lying, I just feel those are abysmal sales for the type of game it is and for the large install base for said game. out of 80mil plus they only managed to sell just under 500k??? So i guess its safe to say that the fan base for this game is just not on the Wii. As for the other vs. games, its clear that your grasping at straws to fit your argument. THey have no data for the other games so comparing them to Tvs.C is unfair. Unless someone is really stupid enough to believe that absoluetly no one bought those games outside of Japan. That doesnt even account for the PSN/Live versions of Mvs.C2 which according to Capcom, did very well(probably why where even getting a Mvs.C3. TO keep things even why not just use Japan #s since thats what we have, but of course the Wii fans will not want to do that cause it makes Tvs.C look even worse
