Do I bite the bullet? Glowing reviews...love survival horror.

But dead space 1 had glowing reviews and was touted as survival horror. In truth it was a really shitty survival horror game...a good shooter...but complete shit for people that don't like their survival horror dipped in to action batter.

Im guessing I'll hate this one too...but will rent it.

I still haven't played the original one and I was planning to do it soon. Your words tore my heart to pieces.

It really depends what you like in your horror games... If you liked the horror found in Alan Wake, REsident Evil 4-5...you will like Dead Space too. The..."Its only scary till I have it in my gun sights..." type of horror.

I preffer the less in your face and more psychological scares which make you uneasy. I found Portal more scary after the system tries to kill you, than any of these games...

Really?  Portal scared you? That's.... different. What other actual survival horror games have you played and liked?

Portal didn't "scare me"...but it did have a very uneasy feeling when the computer goes nuts. You, alone in this maze, hopelessly going from room to room, don't have a clue whats going on...think about it. That uneasy feeling is what I like in my survival games.

Not to mention a bit of thinking as to how to survive...not jsut what to shoot next.

Some games I found scary were REsident evil 1, Alone in the dark (first one), Silent Hill 1,2 and 4, Condemned, Enternal Darkness...

There are games this gen which follow the classic survival horror formula. Silent Hill Homecoming and Siren are two that come to mind. These games are great for people looking to replay the older styles of horror games but they really don't move the genre forward at all.

The only game I've played this gen which was something new, and can still be considered survival horror in the classic vein is Condemned 1.

Condemned 2 already dropped the ball and became action oriented...but part 1 was brilliant in generating chaos and uneasy feeling and wasn't all about mowing down the next enemy that the game throws at you.

i'll try condemned 1 . since i only have a 360 i can't play siren. i loved Alan Wake it wasn't a sulvivar horror but it was a bit scary and intertaining

Yeah I liked Alan Wake too...but not cause of scares or anything. It was an interesting story...

But yeah, condemned 1 will scare you properly for sure.

You may also want to try a game called Amnesia for the PC. I haven't had time to play it yet but a lot of people have been raving about it...

You very much missed the obvious.

Enlighten me of the obvious I missed...

its obvious the game is like Resident Evil 4 in space in the trailers.

I was already planning on getting this game, and this review just cemented my decision. The original Dead Space wasn't overly terrifying, but it did serve to seriously creep me out on more than one occassion. Hopefully the same can be said of its sequel.

Excellent score.

Loved the original and I can't wait to play this.

Siren: Blood Curse, without a doubt, shows you how to make a proper survival horror title. It is the scariest I've played, because it leaves a real sense of uncertainty most of the time (much like the original SILENT HILL). Homecoming, while traditional horror, just wasn't a very good SH game. Condemned: Criminal Origins is just fantastic, FAR better than Bloodshot.

If you really want to to see horror games that blend action with horror while keeping the scares good, play last gen's The Suffering or the original F.E.A.R.

As for Dead Space, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I wasn't necessarily scared much of the time.

you should play Amnesia......!
