There are games this gen which follow the classic survival horror formula. Silent Hill Homecoming and Siren are two that come to mind. These games are great for people looking to replay the older styles of horror games but they really don't move the genre forward at all.

The only game I've played this gen which was something new, and can still be considered survival horror in the classic vein is Condemned 1.

Condemned 2 already dropped the ball and became action oriented...but part 1 was brilliant in generating chaos and uneasy feeling and wasn't all about mowing down the next enemy that the game throws at you.

Siren: Blood Curse, without a doubt, shows you how to make a proper survival horror title. It is the scariest I've played, because it leaves a real sense of uncertainty most of the time (much like the original SILENT HILL). Homecoming, while traditional horror, just wasn't a very good SH game. Condemned: Criminal Origins is just fantastic, FAR better than Bloodshot.

If you really want to to see horror games that blend action with horror while keeping the scares good, play last gen's The Suffering or the original F.E.A.R.

As for Dead Space, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I wasn't necessarily scared much of the time.

you should play Amnesia......!
