They shooter may be drunk. Aslo, there may be large vegetation in that huge backyard, so the person walking around there may not be seen.

Yes, I'm sure the danger of people getting blitzed and blind-firing into a forest on their property at night while it's foggy are a real concern.

You can't legislate the stupid out of stupid people. The same thing could be said for motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, off-road trucks, continue ad nauseum.

Except those don't have as a main purpose hurting and killing people.

Main purpose is entirely derived from what you want to use it for. I see tobacco and alcohol as being only useful for killing people, too.

I have to ask this question:

If the abolition of gun ownership was such a compelling thing to do - to save people from murders and all the evils of guns, then why do we not see any correlative evidence that stricter legistlation on guns has anything to do with crime rates?

That doesn't make them any less dangerous in the wrong hands.

So you can have a giant 4-5 acre backyard, and it'd be illegal to conduct target pratice in it?

That's... just stupid and imposing a law soley for the fact of imposing a law.

It's not a stupid law at all. If you want target practice you need a secure space, where the chances of hurting yourself or others is very very limited. Your backyard is not a secure space, regardless of how big it may be.

Er?  Yes it is?

No it isn't!

How is your backyard not a secure place if it's huge?

Someone may be walking around in it, and you may accidentally shoot that persom (for example).

Are you firing blindfolded?

They shooter may be drunk. Aslo, there may be large vegetation in that huge backyard, so the person walking around there may not be seen.

So a tresspasser on your property? I would shoot them, they shouldn't be there. Anyone who should be there )ie lives on the property) Would know to be careful and announce themselves when the know someone else is target practicing.

Exactly. Not to mention that there are millions of people in the US that target practice in their backyards with no issues that sapphi tries to raise as problematic.

As I type this, I am 1 mile from a gun range, and about 50 feet from a neighbor that shoots in his 1 acre backyard almost every day. As long as you have remotely intelligent people, there won't be issues like sapphi assumes are reasons for making something illegal.

Shooting should only apply in self defense. And the person may not be a tresspasser, jsut someone the shooter doesn't see.

Responsible gun ownership involves, you know, not blindly firing into underbrush. You're acting as if people walk out of their houses and begin unloading rounds into the forest with an AK-47 in one hand and a bottle of scotch in the other.

You're using an extreme situation to restrict the vast majority of responsible people. As I said earlier, you can't legislate the stupid out of stupid people. A stupid person would be just as dangerous with an off-road vehicle as a firearm (assuming they're on their own rural land in this very hypothetical situation).

ok you keep telling yourself that. The rest of us live in the real world where people can use their head to avoid accidents like this. Hence why we do not often hear about them.

lol. I dont own a gun. I just realize that using common sense people can own a gun, and use it for target practice in a large enough area of their own land.
