Forums - Nintendo - I'm thinking Nintendo might offer a later 3DS model without the 3D.

So far I haven't read a single argument that isn't flawed in some way.

Have you read your own?  OOOOOHHHHHHHH SNAP!!!!!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

nah, why would they make another model without 3D. It's like making an HD console and then making another console of it in 480p.

That would only change the resolution output, not the specs. Something similar would apply here. Just because it wasn't done doesn't mean it couldn't have been.

Not a chance

If they wanted to make a cheaper model they'd just do a plain old price cut, it's not like they're losing money on each 3DS - not even close

A point I should have elaborated on is if the 3D aspect hurts the system later on. Then even if the screen cost less, it's very existence could hurt sales.

remove the 3d == remove the reason why i want it, completely pointless nintendo would never do that because it would scream that they lack confidence in their master plan for 3ds...

It's based on the concept of "box office poison", where it's noted that an element in a film is so disliked, usually an unpopular actor, that audiences will stay away from a film just because of that element. Take a film by Uwe Boll is box office poison. Thus if 3D turns out that way, and in any medium that has it, then potentially Nintendo would have to distance the 3D aspect of the system to avoid losing the mainstream.

This is about if the mainstream looses confidence in 3D later on, not if Nintendo doesn't feel it's strong enough now. It doesn't matter if Nintendo likes the aspect if it eventually turns out that their customers want their products without it.

Everyone who's layed hands on the 3DS says it great and the 3D effect are amazing. Why would that suddenly stop?

I think people might get bored of 3D in movies because of how bad some movies' 3D effects are - - I remember Avatar was great in 3D but the next movie I watched in 3D was Alice and those effects weren't nearly as impressive - - I doubt seeing a few movies with bad 3D is gonna make people dislike 3D altogether, one look at good 3D and they'll like it again (like me )

So my point is the 3D effect in 3DS >>> 3D in most movies - - - - - From my experience, it seems that realtime rendered 3D feels better in genereal (my friend's 3D computer screen & games), and great 3D effects do make a difference
