Forums - Sony - Sony's next move in the fight against piracy, we all knew it'd come to this

This is ridiculous. Sony (allegedly) wants to destroy used sales of ps3 games in the name of stopping piracy. If true, the lines between console and pc keep getting blurrier.

I've been having trouble seeing said lines for most of this generation :P

This sounds pretty stupid, I hope this isn't true. I already don't buy a lot of new games and usually rent. Heck, the last console game I bought was a used copy of Final Fantasy XIII over the summer (this may change with Little Big Planet 2 and Killzone 3).

I kinda have doubts about this. It seems very unlikely that Sony would implement a system like that, especially because the retailers who sell used games would probably respond by pulling all of Sony's hardware and software from the shelves, which would be very bad for Sony. It's much more likely Sony will respond in the same way Microsoft has, by banning users from PSN who play their pirated games online.

if sony actually went as far as to implement this it would kill any interest I have in their platforms.  Which is unfortunate, as I really like my ps3 and psp, but this is a little bit too extreme of an approach.

Are people really so poor they need sell their games so much?   If you really need sell games so much to fund new ones then just join gamefly or lovefilm or whatever your country uses like that.  It is cheap and you'll get many many more games played out of it.

This shouldn't even be an issue at all for new buyers if they keep games and if you trade games in you're doing it wrong anyway, that is far from the best use of money.

Gamefly > all.

However, if this is true then gamefly won't be able to rent out games because they only work for 5 consoles right?

this will solve the used game problem if the game is used 5 times how can an store buy the game?

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I just joined in, because people here take rumors as facts. So I felt like joining in on once.

I don't want to jump to conclusions as i don't know if its true...but if its is, Sony has bunch of apes calling the shots for the PS3.

This behaviour encourages piracy in my books. I think Id rather pirate a game I am unsure of buying if I can't rent it or buy it used. I bought 5 games last year and rented over 20... I ain't paying 60 bucks for something I don't even know I'll like.

Also, whats the point? Copywright protection implemented on PC games hasn't stopped a single game from getting ripped and distributed on the net for free. And since PS3 master key is up for grabs, hackers are just going to rip these games and put them on the net for you to enjoy. You may not be able to play on PSN with them but still it solves nothing, as I'm sure they can figure out a way of booting illegal users off psn now as things are without locking their software to 5 uses...
