This thread has been ruined by those who don't like the point of the thread.  Typical...

  • As far as the thread point, The PS3 is going to have the highest quantity this year between the HD consoles, but total sales will be Wii, 360, PS3.

That's hardly a certainty though is it?

Which point?

The PS3 will certainly have more million plus sellers, based on the sheer volume of big sellers/releases for the PS3 this year.  But, most will sell 1-3 million at best.

That is why i said that the total software sales would be Wii,360,PS3.

Wii has the large base, and the 360 will have multiple 5 million sellers.

IMO....

to me this is just adding up apples with oranges...i mean what's the point of counting titles that have to sell a fraction of 1M to get the first milestone along with titles that have already achieved this goal but have to sell 1M in the solar year to enter this chart?

you should actually choose either

1)count sales in solar year for every title and add the ones that manage to sell at least 1M in 2011 starting from 1st jan till 31st dec

or

2)count the titles that pass 1M milestone in the solar year (both new and already released title)

if you choose the 1st option you should count out titles like GTA: episodes for PS3...if you choose the 2nd option you should count out all the titles that has already achieved the 1M milestone in the previous years (eg: Kineckt adventures)

In othe words you can choose between counting sales (1st options) and counting milestones (2nd option) but a mixture of these criteria makes no sense at all.

Unless I am missing something, he is only counting milestones.  Looking at the 2010 list, I don't see games like Wii sports in the actual million sellers list, just in the top sales for the year.  I don't really see the problem.  It means that every game that is a 'million seller' will be counted, and nothing will get counted twice.  Your first option could result in games selling 900k each year for 5 years, but never being counted as a million seller.

I guess the problem is just that Smeags is also listing the top 10 for the year.  I like seeing the top sellers as well, but it seems to be confusing a ton of people.

Hey I just have a quick question.

If a game from 2010 sells 900 thousand and then crosses over into the 1 million mark in 2011, but also sells 1 million more in 2011 will it be counted twice?

No...

Which one takes precedence over the other?

When it crosses over into the 1 million mark. Strictly speaking, what it does this year really doesn't matter for this thread. As soon as a game hits one million sales, it will show up in this list no matter when most of those sales occurred.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Why is this tread so confusing to some people. there is no double counting.  If a game sells  its millionth game during the year 2011, then it gets counted, otherwise it doesn't.

I am a nintendo fan, not a nintendo fanboy

Wow, I just started reading this thread, and I didn't realize there was so much confusion over what I'm trying to do here. My apologies everyone, I didn't mean to cause such a ruckus!

Let me explain what I'm trying to accomplish in this thread.

There are two types of Million Sellers that seem to be mixing people up. There's games that will hit the million point for the first time this year, regardless of when the were released. This is the most important factor that I'm counting in this thread, and the rankings on the first post include these games that have only hit 1,000,000 copies sold for their first time. Like ConeGamer said, GTA: EfLC was around 999,999 at the last week in 2010, and hit 1,000,000 sold at the start of the 2011 year. So because it hit it in 2011, it will be included in the "2011 Million Seller Club" (is the title that misleading?).

The second, which many of you are talking about, are titles that have hit 1,000,000 copies sold in 2011 only (which no title has achieved yet). No counting previous sales in previous years, but only for this year (which is what those top 10 charts are). Looking at it now, I understand the confusion, and I' will actually be working on a new system starting this week. I think it will work much better myself, and I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks to ConeGamer and Barozi for helping out and trying to explain my bizarre methods. ^_^

Ninja Gaiden II on X360, is dangerously  close, 0.99M

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Sorry Smeags for causing trouble

Your doing an awesome job though so keep up the good work

You're good man you're good!

I understand that it was somewhat confusing, since I had both types of "million sellers" up on there, instead of focusing on just one. In fact, because of that discussion I'm actually redoing thread to make it even better. Without your discussion I wouldn't have made that change, so I really do appreciate your feedback here.

So please, if you have a question or concern in the future, just ask away. ^_^
