Do attack ads work?

Yes, attack ads help me vote 6 60.00%

No, they are juvinile and offensive 4 40.00%

Total:10

I just thought of something. The most famous attack ads on TV led to huge success for the company behind them. Apple's I'm a Mac commercials did wonders for Mac's. The Apple commercials constantly attack PC's and make fun of them they are vicious and people love them. I guess that proves at least for computers and electronics attack ads work. The question is does that also apply to elections.

Right now according to the poll half of you think they work while the other half thinks they are just juvanile!

Attack ads, I feel, are a very important part of adversial politics.

I think they work.

In the UK, attack ads (and really, ads in general) are almost exclusively Conservative, from what I've seen. Some are absolutely disastrous, like the paralysed David Cameron staring at a camera. Actually, the attack ads are the best; for example, the ones with Gordon Brown doing his disturbing smile with the sarcastic statements (e.g. "I tripled the deficit, let me do it again"). There is nothing wrong with attacking the other parties, especially in a country where everyone hates all of the parties for one reason or another anyway.

This has got me thinking, and I realised - J.K. Rowling supports Labour. They should totally jump on that and have Dumbledoore endorse the party, or something... would bode far better than Ross Kemp.

Eddie Izzard does as well. They did a video for that.

Honestly, he should stick to standup. He has all of the political intelligence of Sarah Palin, seriously. That was certainly an attack ad. He kept insisting that David Cameron would be Margaret Thatcher and do such awful things as winning a war, reducing taxes, reducing trade union power and remaining in power for 11 years. He's not going to do any of those things (of course, Eddie didn't mention this, he just whined a little about unemployment). I only ever saw it on YouTube, though, because apparently Labour can't actually afford advertising campaigns. I have no idea where all of their donations go.

Dumbledore is a much better idea, but only if they can resurrect the old one, because this new one is awful.

Huh, I'm really confused, here... I can't tell sarcasm over text, but those things would be awesome, and I would think that he would be aiming to do all of them, fiscal situation willing.

I'm referring to the fact that pretty much everyone despises Margaret Thatcher despite the fact that she's probably done more for our country than every Prime Minister since combined. David Cameron lacks the strength of will and the leadership qualities, to be a tenth of the leader that Margaret Thatcher was.

Haha, whilst I agree 100% that really wasn't what I comprehended you to mean the first time around.
