Forums - PC - So I bought DC Universe Online

So I went against what I promised myself years ago, and I decided to buy another Sony Online Entertainment MMO game (after being severely disappointed with several previous games) and I picked up DC Universe Online. Now, I’ve only played for a couple hours so I can’t give much of a review, but it plays very well; and its greatest strength (in my opinion) is that it doesn’t remind me of WoW (or any other fantasy RPG). With that said, the biggest flaw with this game is that SOE’s server reliability and customer service appears to be as poor as ever; and I would suggest holding off buying the game for (at least) a couple of weeks to see whether these problems are just typical MMO launch issues, or whether SOE really doesn’t get it.

The gameplay is completely different and much more refreshing then WoWs. Every other mmos plays like WoW. This one is in a league of it's own....hehe

What customer service issues have you noticed?

Also, in terms of waiting a couple of weeks before trying it out, servers were full a few minutes ago in NA even after adding a few more last week.

No, it isn't. It's competing with Champions Online and City of Heroes/Villains.

any mmo that exceeds sales expectations will have server/customer support problems.  they expected to have to serve less people so they only set up support for that many.

i assume that they will fix all these issues as they go

the server issue was the first one since launch.  And it didn't last very long.  I'm very impressed with the game and stability so far.  It's pretty damn awesome playing an MMO on the PS3.  And it's like no other MMO I've ever played.  It has created it's own new genre!  :)  I recommend buying it for sure.

The only server issue i've ever had was being put in a queue to wait my turn. I was about the 115th person in the queue and it went rather quickly. I have not encountered any disconnects, freezes, or shut down of any sort either. Now of course i'm probably just lucky as a friend of mine text me last night mentioning how he was disconnected twice and then the servers went down for maintenance.

Regardless of what anyone sais - this game has far exceeded many peoples expectations, including mine. I have never thought in my life time i would end up buying a game that required a monthly fee to continue paying. As long as SOE supports this game the way they should, then it can and will be a cult hit.

I'm actually really impressed with the launch of this game.  I don't know if I'm just still jaded from the utter distaster that FFXIV was but so far DCUO has been pretty great.  Even in the beta I didn't encounter anything really game breaking and the launch itself has been pretty smooth.  The only real problem I've encounter is my friend and I couldn't figure outhow to get voice chat working other that it has been great!

So note to SE-- this is how an MMO is supposed to launch.

Ugh, Im surprised by the positive nature of this thread.  As a player of Everquest, Everquest II, and countless other MMOs.  I played the beta for this and left entirely disappointed by it.   I thought it was pretty mediocre actually.  I suppose it's a solid entry for console players but I would never consider playing this over World of Warcraft if I were a PC player.

I actually come from EQ, EQ II (though not much at all), FFXI, WoW, City of Villains, and FFXIV and I must say I love this game.  It's a completely different experience than all of those except City of Villains and it's refreshing.  It does play more like an action game but that's why it will succeed.  If it did what any other MMO did and try to be WoW, it would fail.

It's an action MMO that's of actual quality.  What is there to be negative about?

It's not without it's problems (PS3 and PC players can't play together, the chat functions are lacking) but it's a pretty strong game.

I suppose it could just be a personal comfort factor.  I enjoy Hack N Slash type of games,  I just don't feel like it meshes well in an MMO environment.  (Although in a console MMO environment,  I suppose you almost require that Hack N Slash attitude).

I didn't play it entirely long (Probably 45 minutes or so)  so just like any other MMO I definitely didn't give it a fair shake.  I just left disappointed in it?  Maybe it's the fact that they broke the formula?

Regardless,  good for them.  It seems like a lot of people are enjoying it thus far.  It will be interesting to see where it goes.   I've always enjoyed MMOs and if this gets more people into them, I'm all for it.
