Forums - Sales - New Zealand Sony Hardware Sales (GfK).

PlayStation sales for November:

  • PlayStation 2 - 3,926 units
  • PlayStation Portable - 2,612 units
  • PlayStation 3 - 1,831 units
PlayStation sales since March 23rd:

  • PlayStation 2 - 36,637 units
  • PlayStation Portable - 16,625 units
  • PlayStation 3 - 15,172 units

No hard data for the other consoles, but SCENZ say "The three consoles claimed the number one, two, and three spots for November gaming console sales respectively", which would put 360,Wii, and DS at less than 1,831 for November. Apparently "since its launch on 23 March 2007, the PS3 has been the top selling 'next generation' console overall", so that would put 360 and Wii sales at under 15,172 since March 23. Of course this is an unfair comparison as it includes PS3 launch numbers, but not 360 or Wii's. Still, it's a claim that SCE Australia cannot make, so there's definitely a difference in console tastes across the Tasman Sea.

Unfortunately not a great deal else we can deduce, but we do get PS3 LTD.

somehow I doubt PS3 is outselling DS in NZ. Even the most diehard Sony fanboy countries in Europe have the DS at or near the top. I expect some serious spinning is going on here.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Of course some spin is going on, but the figures are legitimate. According to GfK PS3 did outsell the DS in New Zealand in November. If you suggest that SCENZ are lieing, then you'll soon hear about it as Nintendo also have access to GfK figures, and will certainly dispute them if SCENZ is wrong.

I remembered that Sony announced GfK figures for their consoles after the PS3 release, a quick search led to the same site that published the November figures in the first post.

23 March - 1 April 2007:

PlayStation 3 - 4835

PlayStation 2 - 1567

PlayStation Portable - 738

Link

April - October 2007:

PlayStation 2 - 31,144 = 4,449/Month

PlayStation Portable - 13,275 = 1,896/Month

PlayStation 3 - 8,506 = 1,215/Month

November 2007:

PlayStation 2 - 3,926

PlayStation Portable - 2,612

PlayStation 3 - 1,831

PlayStation sales since March 23rd:

PlayStation 2 - 36,637

PlayStation Portable - 16,625

PlayStation 3 - 15,172 (LTD)

Outselling DS?
GfK must be on crack.

Actually if i remember correctly there was a number release for Europe sales a month ago in which Sony claimed to have the No1 and No2 spots in console sales, which was clearly bunk.

I would understand if Wii/360 were outsold by any PS hardware.... but DS?

We can refine PS3 numbers a little more as Sony gave GfK LTD at the end of July: "in excess of 9,000 units have been sold in New Zealand since the March 07 launch". I'll just use the 9,000 figure as even though it says "in excess" I doubt it was much over, otherwise Sony would have said "almost 10,000" or something similar.

2007

March

PlayStation 3 - 4,835

April - July

PlayStation 3 - 4184 (1,046/Month)

August - October

PlayStation 3 - 4,322 (1,441/Month)

November

PlayStation 3 - 1,831

LTD to end of November

PlayStation 3 - 15,172

This is quite useful as we can see what kind of affect the Starter pack had on sales as it launched immediately after the 9,000 figure was given. Unfortunately the following period also includes October, when the 40Gb was launched, so it's difficult to know which had the bigger impact on sales. Either way, sales don't seem to have increased as much as they did in some European countries. This is probably due to the 60Gb not receiving a price drop as it did in Europe.

Edit:

I found the exact LTD figure for the end of July - 9,019, so as I suspected, not much higher than 9,000. Figures adjusted anyway.

Well analysed BKK.
It is nice to have some numbers with regular intervals for PAL areas.... We get Italy from Prosugno but mostly all there is is software charts with no sales numbers.

I am extremely doubtful of the claim against DS though, especially with such a huge gap between PS2 and PS3.

New Zealand was one of the few places where the Psp was beating the Ds regularly...this seems legit to me.

PSP i can understand. but I would have expected DS to come close at least, but PS3 is much lower than PSP and DS is supposedly under that too.

pffft NZ. trust me, kiwi's are the biggest sony fanboys on the planet. the only game they ever talk about is GTA.
