Forums - Microsoft - Indigo prophecy for kinect is... perfect.

I didn't like this game at all. The story is pretty much matrix-esque, and the gameplay is not very funny. I don't really understand why you want such a bad game to be applied with kinect. Imho, I think it has been thought with a controller in mind (basically, actions are determined by pressing the right button at the right time). Wiimote, move or much better the dualshock could play this.

Not surprised to see that many of the best kinect hacks require a controller.

That's because people keep modding games designed for use with controllers to play on Kinect.

The Kinect was designed for developers to create games that don't use controllers.

I've stated for many months now that had Heavy Rain been designed (not ported) to be used with Kinect, it could've been a killer app.  Granted this was before Move and Kinect launched, so zealots ripped me apart instead being console agnostic and thinking about the possibilities.

Cage and Quantic Dream are not exclusive to Sony consoles at all, so I have a feeling he may be thinking the saaaaaame thinnnnnnng ...

Hybrid games? You mean games that have extra content designed for Kinect? Hence, content actually designed for use with Kinect.

You said the best hacks for Kinect require a controller. Maybe you aren't taking into consideration a game like Indigo Prophecy was designed for use with a controller. All they did with Kinect is have gestures emulate pressing buttons. Its a worthless mod that doesn't make great use of Kinect at all.

In Deca Sports for Kinect they actually have an FPS paintball game. You move by stepping around. For example if I step forward the character moves forward and doesn't stop until I step back in place. Now if the modder applied something like that to this Indigo Prophecy mod, that would replace the need of the joystick.

Another method I saw in Deca Sports, the snowboarding game allows you to move by leaning left and right. You speed up by leaning forward and slow down by leaning back. The Kinect can actually determine how you're moving your upper body like the movement of a joystick. That's another way he could control movement and replace the need of a joystick.

Hybrid games will be designed for games that you clearly need a button ie some shooters, the button is not only a controller thing.

Are we going to have this conversation again?

Sport/Fitness/Survival Horror/Some story modes etc you dont carry a controller thing in real life. Thus your logic makes not sense. Don't bring Kinect down

Some games make more sense without a controller and nothing you can say will make you right in that aspect. Whats kind of annoying that you are dancing around something without down right saying... what you are doing is baiting and should be considered trolling but isn't unfortunately.

Hybrid games will enable Kinect in some types of games were the camera technology alone for itself isn't up for the task.

Thats what those will be designed for.

What we all can agree here is that in order for Microsoft to expand their gaming offerings with Kinect, they must incorporate a controller with the Kinect camera.  In fact, Microsoft admitted to this by openly announcing the exploration of Kinect/controller hybrid games.  But when it's reminded of this in regards to Kinect related issues such as hack that exposed the limitations of Kinect as a standalone peripheral, some of you get offended.  Why?  Microsoft had admitted to it.  Keep it real.

I don't agree on that, so no we don't all agree.  When Microsoft made that statement, I didn't agree.  A single hand controller?  Ok, but the 360 controller requires both hands and taking even one hand off to do something is awkward and counterintuitive.

What I want to see from Kinect is something that most of the hackers still don't get: NEW game experiences that are designed around this interface.  As they are currently, games won't work well with it.  Combat heavy games, first person shooters, controller interface designed games WILL NOT WORK.  It starts with what the interface CAN do and games need to be designed for THAT.  We are not game designers and that is why I see so many struggling with conceptualizing what to do with Kinect and thus think its going to be limited to only shovelware and minigames.

Game concepts that would be boring with a controller can be made interesting by Kinects interface.  Its more engaging, physically and emotionally.  The hope is some developer's creative juices are re-energized by it instead of looking for quick cash ins (we all know they are there and will be there, though).

The most disappointing thing for me, though, is to see gamers so close minded to games growing beyond what we have now.  As a fan of Star Trek, the holodeck is the final evolution of what so many of us love as gamers and this is the next huge leap TOWARD that.  To keep insisting that this can't succeed without a controller is hold on to the past and stifle gaming evolution.  Kinect needs to push the controller free envelope so that we can reach the holodeck realization.
