Forums - Sony - PS3 hack taken to new level now hackers able to get tons of free Trophies

This seems to have been something from the dongle times actually, though apparently it assigned dates up to 2099, so must have been improved on. Still, if they haven't been going rampant with it and still cant sync, maybe there's plenty Sony can do. When it comes to the PSN, at least that is some external network.

(Regarding the x360, what happens to acheivements achieved offline? My box seems to always be stuck in 2005, and not sure even that gets recorded. it's been offline for two years and probably has some 60-70 achievements not marked online lol...)

This throws the whole significant of playing games out the window, I mean why cheat? What is to be accomplished other than the fact of being looked like a loser and a cheater at that?

yeah apparently its a big step and improvement over what they could do before with the old, pretty crappy, trophy hack.

Also apparently the hackers stated they'll be able to sync them with PSN within the next month and claim they have a fix.  As for your 360 achievements it doesn't matter if you earn them offline once you sign on MS has ways of knowing whether they were hacked or not so its all good

But wait, I thought the CFW was for opening things up for homebrew?

The 360 Achievements hack is a joke, it's so easy it's unreal. I never did it myself but a few of my douchebag friends did and it was unamusing to see them jump from ~2000 points to ~49000, but it was alot more amusing to see them go from ~49000 to their original numbers haha or even lower. But it does take a while for the MS to catch on. I think it'll be a while before Sony will figure out how to separate the shit from the water before it dilludes, if the system was hacked earlier on in it's life cycle and not in such a drastic way it wouldn't have had such a large impact, well in my opinion anyway.

The ps3 being open up is the worst thing thats happened to the ps3. Shore you can do home brew and stuff but once piracy starts the number of great games that will be made for the ps3 will drop like a rock. the psp sais hi >_>

That's not the issue. The PS2 had enormous amounts of piracy, and the lineup was never damaged. Same for the 360, the Wii, the DS, and of course the PC. Piracy doesn't actually hurt game sales very much. Most of the people who bought before will buy after.

The issue is the whole online hacking thing. That is annoying, because it pretty much ruins online experiences.

Word is that you can't sync them with Sony's servers, but I don't really see how it threatens trophies even if you could. Sony could just deal with offenders like Microsoft deals with achievement hackers: reset their trophies and/or smack them with the banhammer.

The difference is on the PS3 its undetectable, on the 360 it just pops them all up at once and MS can easily see that you got 100 achievements at once.

On the PS3 it goes through and randomly assigns times and dates on them so there is literally no way for Sony to know whose are legit and whose are hacked, and they will figure out how to get them synced on line trust me, they have the entire key set of the PS3 its only a matter of time.

Ah. Well, it seems that they'd still have to be careful about that because if you, say, unlock a trophy for maxing out your online level before unlocking the trophy for winning your first game online, it would look pretty suspicious. Of course, that can also happen legitimately if the date on your PS3 clock is wrong and you fix it later, but someone abusing the system too much would trip themselves up.

True, true and that is a valid point, they will still have to be careful with how they do it.

Its just the PS3's keys have only been available for a limited time and they're already doing this kind of stuff, its gonna be crazy seeing the things they can do in the future.

Actully the clock thing does NOT work!! i know this because i recieved Assassin's Creed 2 in the post a day early (or maybe 2, cant remember). anyway i thought i might get my PSN account banned if Sony knew i had played the game before it was out. so i changed the date on my PS3 to the next day, because i thought that when i unlock my first trophies they would register as the next day. not so, they register on the actual day you got em. but  nothing happened to me, so it was fine.

but i dont see why Sony can't just ban user accounts like Microsoft did??

That COD MW2 video was a joke.. Admin access, even the ability to demote players, teleport them to your location etc etc.. Just extremely f'ing stupid to be honest. PS3 is experiencing the shit that CS:S on PC does. Bloody wallhackers, aimbotters all over the place.

I don't think they'll ban over something this trivial, they'll just decrease the trophies to either the original amount or completely deplete them. You see that's the thing about PSN: It's free, no detterent, so if your PSN account gets banned you can just make a new one and start playing again without losing any money or anything, so they'd have to disable the console's online like MS did.
