PS3 Hack Dispenses Trophies Galore

Hackers have figured out how to bestow themselves trophies in some PlayStation 3 games, revealing another threat posed by the PS3 root key crack unleashed earlier this month.

CVG reported that hackers in some forums claimed to have given themselves trophies, though it was not clear if they were able to sync their altered trophy history with the PlayStation Network. The hackers were able to get the full trophy sets of games like PAIN, with timestamps for the trophies randomly assigned. They were unsuccessful unlocking trophies out of other games like Resident Evil 5 and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

PS3 Jailbreak Threatens Trophies? [CVG]

Wow it appears the PS3 really is Wide Open now.  If hackers are able to successfully alter online things like Trophies with random times put on them so its undetectable just imagine what they will be able to do in 3 more months with the PS3's keys.

Dear lord...

The ps3 being open up is the worst thing thats happened to the ps3. Shore you can do home brew and stuff but once piracy starts the number of great games that will be made for the ps3 will drop like a rock. the psp sais hi >_>

Conegamer - I say that the PS3 will beat the DS next week in Japan  (for hardware sales) Forfeit is control over others avatar for 1 week.

Posted already. Also just to make my point known again. If you need to hack trophies then you seriously are a pathetic joke.

oh sorry didn't realize it had been, i looked around and couldn't find the thread so I made one.

Also I do completely agree, if you need to hack your Trophies list thats ridiculous.  And it also shows the potential of what these people can do with the PS3's key set, this could turn very bad.

Word is that you can't sync them with Sony's servers, but I don't really see how it threatens trophies even if you could. Sony could just deal with offenders like Microsoft deals with achievement hackers: reset their trophies and/or smack them with the banhammer.

The difference is on the PS3 its undetectable, on the 360 it just pops them all up at once and MS can easily see that you got 100 achievements at once.

On the PS3 it goes through and randomly assigns times and dates on them so there is literally no way for Sony to know whose are legit and whose are hacked, and they will figure out how to get them synced on line trust me, they have the entire key set of the PS3 its only a matter of time.

Ah. Well, it seems that they'd still have to be careful about that because if you, say, unlock a trophy for maxing out your online level before unlocking the trophy for winning your first game online, it would look pretty suspicious. Of course, that can also happen legitimately if the date on your PS3 clock is wrong and you fix it later, but someone abusing the system too much would trip themselves up.

True, true and that is a valid point, they will still have to be careful with how they do it.

Its just the PS3's keys have only been available for a limited time and they're already doing this kind of stuff, its gonna be crazy seeing the things they can do in the future.
