Forums - Sony - How do you annoy Sony? sell an app to hack the ps3 on Android

Why are Sony fans so against piracy? I thought they would like to see the PS3 finish in second place and piracy certainly will increase hardware sales from here on out.

You have a point there

On the other hand, there goes Sony's plan of selling consoles at a loss/ with little profit in hope of making more money off games... - - - - - bah who cares - PS3's gonna be in second place, you guys should be happy n_n

Piracy didn't exactly help the PSP, so it might be really harmful for PS3... another PC scenario where devs won't make games for the console because of the piracy rates.

There's still a few things they can do to slow it down, though.

-Padding (making games bigger by adding useless data across the disc)

-Disc checks (making sure a game will never run off the hard drive by doing blu-ray disc checks)

-Anti-Crack/Patch/Checksum checks

-Having a mandatory connection to PSN for all games, like Ubisoft did for a while

-Mandatory online, unique registration codes tied to PSN account

This is just the beginning! Who will benefit from this? Pirates, at the expense of all the other gamers.

Want to secure your console, Sony? I have great ideas. Msg me. :)

Fun times ahead. <EOF>

Geohot should know better than anyone that that CFW would be modified and used in a way that wasn't originally intended...

yeah, but it was never really about piracy. Geohot likes cfw, and overflow likes linux. The hacks were not made with piracy in mind and Geohot even tried to prevent it with his firmware.

that prevent it was bullshit. Even if supposedly piracy wasn't in mind, there was no real move to stop it.

There was a move to stop it. But it isn't his job to prevent piracy. Why should he go out of his way to do Sony's job? Again, I was offering a counterpoint to what the OP said...

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Whilst I'm against this entirely, I think this is an overwhelming kick in the teeth.

I still can't get my head around the idea that this was never about piracy and it was all about linux, but within 2 days of these being released, we've had more hacks and crap with Linux and homebrew items nowhere in sight...yup, totally, it was never about the piracy...¬_¬

in 1998 i had a friend that showed me how to hack the public computers on the campus... they were blocked to use only word and internet. It was easy, he just used IE as a browser to delete the blocking program....

I'm pretty sure the IT staff didn't put IE there for him to delete the protection program, but he still used it for that.

Similarly, Gehort wants to use the PS3 as a dev tool.... he needs it useable as he wants, so he makes it so. He shares his finding for the like minded... he's the IT staff, they are the regular students that use the IE for the internet.

Pirates are like my friend... they use the tool put at their disposal for other purposes, it's still the same tool though, just used differently.

Personally I don't care if it ends second or third, I simply wish good luck for Sony to be successful. This, on the other hand, will most likely injure developers profits, which means less great exclusive games and less effort for the ps3 version on ports if a signifcant ammount of people decide to stop paying for games.

Anyone that really cares about hardware sales at this point is just nuts. Its the online experience that will suffer from this, and that, is the best experience this gen in my opinion.

Edit: Besides infamous 2 ;)
