yeah, but it was never really about piracy. Geohot likes cfw, and overflow likes linux. The hacks were not made with piracy in mind and Geohot even tried to prevent it with his firmware. 

that prevent it was bullshit. Even if supposedly piracy wasn't in mind, there was no real move to stop it.
