Woah woah now, I think you may be over-reacting just a little bit.

I agree the message is now redundant. They should have made this back in 2008 when Wii Music was shown, or, even better, during the days of the late GC, where the only new Mario game was the poor, kiddy Super Mario Sunshine, Wind waker was released, and many had doubts that Twilight Princess would ever be released. This gen we've had 2 3D mario games, Mario Kart, 2D mario, Mario Party, 2 Mario Sports games (with another to come), all highly critically acclaimed. Hardly poor when you think about it!

Then there's Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong...but I won't get into that

However, criticising the video for what it is isn't truly fair. Is it outdated? Yes. Is it cliched? Perhaps. And the message is most certainly wrong. However, I personally felt that, like many others here, the video was atmospheric and was of good quality for a one-man team. You can't expect the big-budget cinema from 7 minutes of a you-tube clip made by one man. If you forget about the message it's trying to bring out, then you could quite easily say that it was scary to see Mario in this dystopian light.

More than anything, I think the key thing is to calm down. We'll never know when this was made. We'll never know if it's supposed to be a joke, or an ironic treatment of Nintendo's IPs being over-used (hence why Mario looks old and battered? Who knows...), because there's no description. The maker could be the biggest Nintendo fan ever, and is trying to release this video to produce the reaction of mine and yours.

Yes, the message is wrong, outdated, but there's no denying that it provoked a reaction. Perhaps that's the most important thing

Sorry if I came off as snapping or something haha it was my brutally honest opinion of the video, I've seen one man teams do a lot more... with a lot more creativity...  I really didn't feel the moody bit some people seem to have unless you count the Silent Hill music... but like I said the best part of the video was the music and he didn't make that, honestly I get better moodiness from just popping in my Silent Hill sound track lol

Destructoid posted a news article the video for whatever reason and it's gotten a lot of hits since then.  I don't really see a point behind it other than a redundant message, I wouldn't want to be remembered for that haha

True, I have to agre with you, I watched it, but I thought "so what?". World Of Goo was made by 2 people, and Cave Story 1! So there are 1-man teams with originality out there

I think the reason it got so many hits is because the Destructoid article reads 'Nintendo-A sad story', and that compelled me to click on it, likewise many others no doubt! If the title was 'here' a boring out-of-date video about how Nintendo fails which is no longer applicable in 2011' I bet it wouldn't have got half as many hits

Read what I posted right before this... this video and all is a big hoax

Hoax? That's what they all say, however, in this case you're probably right...

Still, bit extreme, maybe offensive to some (such as you, and a lesser extent myself). Certainly splits opinion anyway, regardless of its motif!

I just hope Silent Hill is not as boring as this video because I may still want to play one of them

Eh you got me all wrong, I don't get offended, but I am brutally honest when I dislike something.  It works in reverse too when I like something.  I just found the video of low quality and people actually supporting it kinda seems dumb to me... especially now that looking into it it's obviously a joke, there's many higher quality projects out there getting ignored, I find that just wrong.

Kinda goes back to my views on video games as art, people ignore the artistic for the high budget hyped games, it seems to be a joke to me when people ignore those games, sing the praises of a hyped game that doesn't even live up to last gen standards, and then they want people to take the game industry seriously.

This dude needs to make my band's music videos when the time comes. That was AWESOME.

I didn't think it was so much a crack at motion controls or the Wii specifically, but the deeper context is how the creator (Miyamoto)forgot his true love. He was so entralled with casual games like Wii Sports, that Mario is left forgotten and neglected.

In the scene where Mario is stuck in the pipe, its an expression of them trying to reinvent mario, or perhaps milking the character, thus sapping his life away slowly, or perhaps its a shot at them altering the visual style of mario too many times.

If anything, I think its a message to say don't forget your roots and where you come from, and to never neglect the things you love in life.

Ah OK. Your post can be interpreted in many ways

At the very least, it was fully fleshed out, as opposed to saying "X is rubbish!" or "Y should be on the X!" or "Z is overtracked!" etc. :/

You still haven't understood that it's the art style, the visuals and the animation that makes some scenes so freaky.

I can understand you not liking it but quite frankly it's just comes out as if you hate on something because it's popular.

I find this video to be very artsy in many ways and very well-made regardless of it's meaning.

lulz this video isn't popular though 100k views on You Tube is a joke and it got those because of sites like Destructoid posting it.

When something is posted from a mock account it's not meant to be art, it's like that episode of South Park "The Poop that took a Pee" people try to read into things and see art where there is none, it's like Jesus on your toast or in your coffee mug, it lacks meaning and intention or any creative purpose.

Interesting...

"Nope, this story doesn't reflect any of my views. It's more that I love the reaction to wii/motion controller games from the 'hardcore' gamers on various gaming forums I use who appear to get worked up by the idea that this is destroying 'traditional' gaming."
