All I could think of while watching that is "Whoever made this is a whiny little bitch" ...

And what?

My interpretation of the video's meaning is that by branching out to include the expanded market, Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aime are condemning the Mario series (or perhaps core gamers) to a meagre (subservient) existence on the Wii.
|
That's also my interpretation.
But whether you agree with the message in the video or not shouldn't take anything away from the fact that it's a great short video.

Uh no it's not, terrible animations, with a piss poor message when you think about it, if you're wanting to get on Nintendo for bringing in new gamers, that ship sailed in 2009 when all the new motion controllers were shown off, if you want to say they aren't focusing on making core Mario titles that are really amazing, then that ship sailed in 2007 as SMG was the best 3D platformer of the past two generations, NSMB Wii showed that not only were 2D platformers viable but so was making them difficult and still able to be played by everyone, then SMG2 came along as knocked SM64 off as the best 3D platformer ever.
The message is redundant, the animation is bad, it was too long, it lacked focus, and it was boring, the best thing about the video is the Silent Hill and Super Mario Galaxy music and... well the guy obviously didn't make that... overall it just lacked imagination in every sense, it was even cliche in the very end "oh the artist sees his creation being tortured by the corporations now I gotta save him, but oh wait he already killed me, and so now he's gonna kill himself..." *sadness*... DONE...TO...DEATH! Shakespeare did that shit hundreds of years ago people think of something new...

Woah woah now, I think you may be over-reacting just a little bit.
I agree the message is now redundant. They should have made this back in 2008 when Wii Music was shown, or, even better, during the days of the late GC, where the only new Mario game was the poor, kiddy Super Mario Sunshine, Wind waker was released, and many had doubts that Twilight Princess would ever be released. This gen we've had 2 3D mario games, Mario Kart, 2D mario, Mario Party, 2 Mario Sports games (with another to come), all highly critically acclaimed. Hardly poor when you think about it!
Then there's Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong...but I won't get into that
However, criticising the video for what it is isn't truly fair. Is it outdated? Yes. Is it cliched? Perhaps. And the message is most certainly wrong. However, I personally felt that, like many others here, the video was atmospheric and was of good quality for a one-man team. You can't expect the big-budget cinema from 7 minutes of a you-tube clip made by one man. If you forget about the message it's trying to bring out, then you could quite easily say that it was scary to see Mario in this dystopian light.
More than anything, I think the key thing is to calm down. We'll never know when this was made. We'll never know if it's supposed to be a joke, or an ironic treatment of Nintendo's IPs being over-used (hence why Mario looks old and battered? Who knows...), because there's no description. The maker could be the biggest Nintendo fan ever, and is trying to release this video to produce the reaction of mine and yours.
Yes, the message is wrong, outdated, but there's no denying that it provoked a reaction. Perhaps that's the most important thing
