Forums - Sony - Sony can completely disable your PS3

I don't think there is much Sony can do apart from to get working on either:

1) Get the PS4 ready sooner and improve its security features

2) New PS3 hardware that can stop this and limit the damage slightly (but I am not expert, so I don't know if this would actually work)

Around the Network

1. Sony bricks consoles.

2. Outrage, suenami from America etc.

3. Sony exits console market.

4. Sony wonders what they did wrong.

So no, I don't think this means anything. Microsoft can brick your console too, but they sure as hell never tried that.

This could work. The Xbox Slim is the only unhackable console on the market today.

Doubtful...but maybe they can somehow detect which PS3s are running custom firmware or pirated games and ban that specific PS3 from ever accessing PSN.

This.  Sony may have control on an individual PS3 from a firmware and software aspect but it's not like they can make hardware destroy itself from their servers.

Have you heard of an e-fuse? Heres a hint, you can't put a piece of wire on it to make it work again.

If sony has access to the personal information stored on your ps3 and uses them, then it's becomming a matter of justice. The ps3 has a DD that is my property since I bought it. Is it written somewhere that sony can check what is on my DD without me knowing this ?

Yeah do exactly what MS did, just ban hammer the users from XBL, disabling consoles completely may not be the best ideas and will likely cause outrage, like when MS banned 900k or so a year or so back some guy actually went on the live radio to say that he is upset over what they did! I mean he got banned and admitted ON THE LIVE RADIO that he pirated over 40 X360 games, including the latest MW2. What a dipshit lol.

I got no idea, but I highly doubt it, the interview was on BBC website, one of the biggest news networks in UK and he admitted to it on the radio, got no idea whether he got done for it or not, but that's just ridiculous I think, whining about being banned after breaking not only the terms in contract but also the laws. Again, what a dipshit ahahaahahha.

They've been disabling PS3s with firmware updates for years now. One feature at a time.
