Well, it shows a blog that mentions VGChartz and... Wikipedia (*shudders*).
Would have been awesome if they showed the front page of VGChartz.

Glad to see that Pacther continues to slowly change his tune.
Launch: PS3 will dominate
Early this year: Wii bubble will burst (almost exact quote, btw)
Mid year: Wii will do quite well, but PS3 will eventually catch up late in the life cycle
Now: Wii doesn't count

@ Bod
Huh? He predicted Wii number 1 at the end of 2007 before PS3 launched.

We talking about the same guy? I have no recollection of him ever giving the Wii such a wide birth. As I said, he DID admit the Wii would take the lead for a while... once the Wii had already taken an enormous lead, but from what I saw he was saying the PS3 would dominate from the very beginning.
In fact, in this Bonus Trailer video, he even says that "no one saw Nintendo coming," and repeatedly talks about how nobody predicted the Wii would be this big.
If you have evidence ot the contrary, let me know, but this is the first time I've heard such a thing.

So you weren't aware of people saying that the Wii was a "fad" or a "gimmick"? For every person in the industry that was saying the Wii would be huge, there were direct reciprocals saying the Wii would not become such a hit with people. Even when it became apparent before the introduction of the Wii-mote that the graphics would be weaker than the 360 or PS3, people thought that would be Nintendo's undoing, and it still carried on a little after the Wii was introduced into the public.
I mean no one could have predicted that the Wii would be such a phenomenon as it is right now, where in just one year after its inception it has become a media darling.
As for Pachter's comments regarding "Wii doesn't matter," he was mentioning Microsoft's approach to this gen where they still think of Sony as more of a threat than Nintendo.

Are we speaking the same language? Of course I was aware of the people who called the Wii a "fad" or "gimmick". I just said that Pachter was one of those people -- although he never used such inflammatory phrasing, he clearly expected the Wii to do poorly, and then when it didn't, he kept expecting it to suddenly START doing poorly. In fact, I know of only a very few people -- let alone analysts -- who came close to predicting the Wii phenomenon. In other words, we entirely agree, but for some reason you seem to be stating this as if we don't.

Whoa, no need to get your jocks all worked up into a bunch. My fault.
It is not uncommon for VGChartz to be cited as a source.
And it is getting more common as the data improves.
Remember, this is the only place where you can get a good picture of what is going on in any market worldwide with videogame sales. And it is FREE.
Is it perfect, no. But neither are all the expensive firms that some people feel spout sales gospel. Me things the people who run those firms might be a bit sociopathic. 8*>
