So you weren't aware of people saying that the Wii was a "fad" or a "gimmick"? For every person in the industry that was saying the Wii would be huge, there were direct reciprocals saying the Wii would not become such a hit with people. Even when it became apparent before the introduction of the Wii-mote that the graphics would be weaker than the 360 or PS3, people thought that would be Nintendo's undoing, and it still carried on a little after the Wii was introduced into the public. I mean no one could have predicted that the Wii would be such a phenomenon as it is right now, where in just one year after its inception it has become a media darling. As for Pachter's comments regarding "Wii doesn't matter," he was mentioning Microsoft's approach to this gen where they still think of Sony as more of a threat than Nintendo. |
Are we speaking the same language? Of course I was aware of the people who called the Wii a "fad" or "gimmick". I just said that Pachter was one of those people -- although he never used such inflammatory phrasing, he clearly expected the Wii to do poorly, and then when it didn't, he kept expecting it to suddenly START doing poorly. In fact, I know of only a very few people -- let alone analysts -- who came close to predicting the Wii phenomenon. In other words, we entirely agree, but for some reason you seem to be stating this as if we don't.
