Forums - Gaming Discussion - Turns out Nolan North isn't the most prolific voice actor in gaming

8th Wendee Lee

100 games…
…including Ace Combat series, Dragon Age: Origins, Dynasty Warriors series, Soul Calibur series

Wendee Lee has played very few major, recurring characters in games (Chai Xianghua from Soul Calibur is her best known character), but if you heard her voice, you’d probably recognise it, certainly if your gaming tastes lean towards the obscure and Japanese side of things.

7th Grey DeLisle

102 games…
…including Baldur’s Gate series, Bayonetta, Doom 3, Final Fantasy X-2, Mass Effect series, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Monkey Island series, Ninja Gaiden II, Star Wars franchise, Starcraft II: Wings Of Liberty, Tomb Raider series

Like most, prolific voice actors, Grey DeLisle was in the first two Baldur’s Gate games, and has also lent her voice to almost every Star Wars game you could think of, rarely in the same role twice, although she has played Queen Amidala on several occasions.

6th Jennifer Hale

125 games…
…including Baldur’s Gate series, DC Universe Online, God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Mass Effect series, Metal Gear series, Metroid Prime series, SOCOM series, Soul Calibur series, Star Wars franchise

The most prolific of all female video game voice actors, and one who’s played a number of major roles in her time. Ever noticed how Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard and Metroid Prime’s Samus Aran have the same voice. No? Oh… well, they do. It’s Jennifer Hale.

Joint 4th Yuri Lownenthal

128 games…
… including Ace Combat series, Assassin’s Creed II, Bayonetta, BioShock 2, Call Of Duty series, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, DC Universe Online, Dragon Age: Origins, Dynasty Warriors series, Fallout: New Vegas, Final Fantasy series, Mass Effect 2, Medal Of Honor series, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Prince Of Persia series, Soul Calibur series, Uncharted series

This is the guy whose voice I recognised in Mass Effect 2, in which he plays Daniel. Who? Exactly, he mostly does bit-parts and ‘additional voices’ but he’s had a few major roles. He was the Prince in three of the Prince Of Persia games, for example, and… well, that’s about it for major roles actually. Lots of smaller roles in big games though.

Joint 4th Nolan North

128 games…
…including Army Of Two: The 40th Day, Assassin’s Creed series, Call Of Duty series, Crash Bandicoot series, Dragon Age: Origins, Fable II, Final Fantasy series, Gears Of War 2, God Of War, Halo series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots, Prince Of Persia, Uncharted series

Easily the best known of all videogame voice acting specialists, Nolan North is bordering on household name status after starring as the ultra-charismatic Nathan Drake in the Uncharted games. No job too big or too small seems to be North’s philosophy, as he seems just as happy taking on lead roles as he is taking on what pretty much amounts to ‘extra’ work.

3rd Robin Atkin Downes

158 games…
…including Final Fantasy series, Gears Of War series, God Of War II, Halo series, Kingdom Hearts series, Mass Effect, Metal Gear series, Ninja Gaiden series, Ratchet & Clank series, Star Wars franchise, Uncharted series

This versatile, and presumably incredibly busy actor, has performed a number of memorable roles in games. The Prophet Of Regret in Halo; that was him. As were Rico Rodriguez in Just Cause, Travis Touchdown in No More Heroes, the Prince in Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within and Captain Slag in Ratchet & Clank. Ha ha, Captain Slag… we hope that’s his nickname at home.

2nd Fred Tatasciore

180 games…
…including Assassin’s Creed series, Batman: Arkham Asylum, BioShock, Call Of Duty series, Dragon Age: Origins, Final Fantasy XIII, Gears Of War series, God Of War series, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead series, Mass Effect series, Metal Gear Solid series, Ninja Giaden Sigma 2, Prince Of Persia series

Best known for playing Damon Baird in Gears Of War and Saren in Mass Effect, Fred Tatasciore just cannot stop having his voice recorded then lip-synced to game characters. It’s what he lives for, apparently. He’s also the man who famously says, “It’s-a me… Mario!” in Assassin’s Creed II, and the voice behind Tabitha, the crazy super-mutant DJ in Fallout: New Vegas.

1st Steve Blum

219 games…
…including Ace Combat series, Batman: Arkham Asylum, BioShock 2, Call Of Duty series, Command & Conquer series, Doom 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Dynasty warriors series, Fallout: New Vegas, Final Fantasy series, God Of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect 2, Metal Gear series, Ninja Gaiden series, Ratchet & Clank series, Star Wars franchise, Uncharted series

The most prolific of all voice actors in games is none other than… Steve Blum. Who? You know, Steve Blum… that guy… with that voice. You might not know the name, but you must surely have enjoyed his work numerous times. In fact, I reckon he must’ve actually worked on more videogames than any other individual in history, which is quite an accolade in itself. Weird thing is, out of all those 219, his biggest role is probably Jack Cayman in MadWorld, which isn’t that big really. Oh well, the guy’s still a legend in my book.

The amazing Spike

Around the Network

Danny Trejo has acted or voiced in 177 pieces of media.

Leanardo Di Caprio has been 33 pieces of media.

Johnny Depp has been 61 pieces of media.

Kevin Spacey has been in 54 pieces of media.

I have a feeling that Leo, Depp and Spacey are far better actors than Danny Trejo.

The reason Nolan North is far more well known compared to all the other voice actors is mainly because he actually gets significant roles, if we we're going to compare a role like Desmond Miles or Nathan Drake to someone who's best role was from Madworld or a supporting character in Mass Effect, then it'd be pretty easy to pick out who would get the more popularity points.

Some of those guys are really impressive though, it's a shame they can't get way bigger roles, mainly because Nolan can get annoying sometimes when his 'Drake voice' is forced into everything (PoP 08, Dark Void). I have a feeling that Nolans going to hit a brick wall soon, his taking on way too much, way too fast.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I feel sorry for the guy who used to be Wolverine, in the 90s cartoon and a few late 90s early 2000s games. Did he fall out of sorts with Marvel as their Wolverine voice guy?

Hmm, pie.

I just wanted to say that Jennifer Hale is an AMAZING Voice Actress! I've heard her in many games and her VA in ME2 as the Female Shepard is just outstanding. That's why I want to only use Female Shepards :D

Oh wow!
