Forums - Sony - Sony Suing Geohot and others over PS3 Hacking

We live in a day where a negative for something is brought to the forefront and the masses start believing how the entire thing is a bad thing just based on the one thing chosen to be highlighted.

We now chose to ignore that not everything about what has transpired will result in piracy and just lump everything and everyone together as one giant group that will destroy the industry.

This trumps any positives that could have come with the hacking. If this happens to KZ3 ill go ape shit.

That's not necessarily true. Especially in the cases of software like OS and other stuff.

So we live in a day where I pay $600 for something and do not even really own it?

So glad this is what people support.

You paid $600 for the OS?

You paid $600 for the hardware and the right to use it. I am not so sure about the PS3, but there are tons of software which is illegal to reverse engineer, for eg windows. This is done to STOP piracy, even if that's not the only thing people gain from reverse engineering.

Linux is specially considered the reverse engineering software, its famous for it, and its encouraged. There's no fear of piracy because its completely open-source and completely free, in which "free" means freedom of usage like you imply. You can change it, hack it, destroy, anything.

Sometimes, a software is supposed to do only something, and an unauthorised person changing that software can be considered illegal.

People play online with PC and 360 all the time and I don't seem them whining nearly as much as the PS3 userbase is right now. They have dealt with this stuff for years.

Report it, the devs fix it.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

PS3 OS does not need to be modified for these homebrew programs to work. I believe the Castlevania LOS Eboot runs without the need of any CFW.

Don't see where your going here.

Maybe SONY should have just left Linux in the PS3. You do know that Team0verflow stated that the scene did not attempt to break open the PS3 because homebrew was available from the start right?

This is what I said was going to happen the moment it was removed. I said it on this very site and many thought I was BSing.

The scene is mainly about homebrew, not piracy. It is just a negative side effect that unfortunately follows.

so they sucker us in with the guise of linux, then they remove it. And we're supposed to just suck on that? Don't trick me into buying your hardware then rape me when I'm not looking.

I never saw this claim be made before, but if you predicted it, I have to hand it to you! I've said many times since though, Sony is the cause of their own suffering right now.

What's even more stupid is that Sony sells PS3s as a gaming console. Imagine that.

Here, let me write the things that poster has written(I know it can be difficult for some people to read):

Now only $299 MSRP*

Blu-Ray

DVDs

It Only Does Everything

Internet Browser

Built-in wifi

Free Online Gaming

Trophies

Built in Hard Drive

Video Chat

Hmm.....

It still trumps all the positives. Whether they fix it or not. I used to play PC but stopped because of that BS. Why should the devs have to fix this? Why should this even be a problem? Ill tell you why, Its because of people who  think "oh, this is my system, i should be able to do what i want". Because of people like you, who support this logic.

The sad part is I'm no longer sure if you're merely being disingenuous because you know you're wrong and don't want to admit it, if you've mentally blocked out the context of the campaign to support your point in your own head, or if you truly, honestly don't get why you're wrong...  For your sake, I hope it's not the latter!

I did not make a thread when I claimed that the scene will now have incentive to hack into the PS3, I said it within a thread about Linux removal.

I am trying to find it.
