Oh ok. I was going to say if they make you pay for first month then that is ridiculous. Otherwise I have no problem with what they're doing.

Just out of curiousity, ever played an MMO?

You will get sucked into that fee if you get sucked in the game's economy as it is usually the one part of an MMO that keeps it going so strongly.

This is how it was with D2 and GW.

For years, and in-fact as i'm writing this i'm on an MMO. Playing Final Fantasy XI about to kill Sippoy and Kutharie.

I have bought every expansion for FFXI for 2 systems and I have spent tons on the subs over the years. $12.95 a month isn't that big deal to me. It's better than paying 65 dollars for a 7 hour game.

More power to you. If you don't mind paying for it I am not going to argue against it, I just feel it is not worth it.

Also doesn't FFXI allow for a yearly sub at a discount rate? I am pretty sure DCU Online allows that for the PC version.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

That is unfortunate. They really don't cut you a break at all.

Personally, I understand a pay to play fee for MMO. But as Euphoria stated, those game should be free to purchase or sold at a heavy discounted rates. Purchasing the game at 20$-25$ in store (case, disc, shipping, manual) as well as receiving the first month free would be reasonable. For online download, simply paying in advance the first month would be reasonable.

Sorry, I might have been interested in DC Universe, but 15 GB download is worse than $15 for me. If it was HDD install it wouldn't have mattered that much.

Also, if it was free2play, I might have actually got it, or if it was free download pay-to-play.

If you play a MMO to the extent that many MMO players do, $10 to $15 a month isn't a lot of money for the game; after all, I've known people who played 10 to 40 hours a week on some games for several years.

The disc space issue is another common trait of MMO games. Typically, a MMO game will receive regular (and free) content updates, and these content updates add up over time.

Now, I personally wonder whether the pricing model of MMO games is appropriate because I think that a good MMO game could probably benefit by giving away the game and all content updates (including expansion packs) and just maintain a monthly charge. After all, it lowers the barrier to entry for most consumers and (as long as you provide regular content updates) it prevents users from finding their current level of content boring leading them to quit. The reason I think developers don't choose this route is that there is probably a very high number of people who don't play past the first month, and their total revenue is much higher this way.

when i looked at the game case and saw that it required 15gb I said "god dayum!!!"

I bought a 320 gig hard drive just for DCUO!

So 15 gigs is not so bad.
