Forums - PC - Good lord, the Physics in crysis is absurd (video included)

The graphics are really amazing and all (if you have a godly PC) but what really amazes me is the physics of this game. Look at this video (sorry for the music, not my video)

That is absolutely astounding. This just goes to show how far above consoles PCs can be. I mean I'm not trying to knock killzone 2 (especially since it hasn't been released) but I doubt it's going to have physics anywhere near what crysis has. Everyonce and a while the graphics whore in me comes out and I think to myself "Man I need some money to upgrade my rig..."

OMG is the only thing that comes to mind...

Wow

If I remember right though vagabond, alot of these Crysis physics vids that have been popping up have not been recorded in realtime, simply frame by frame.

High end rigs still won't be able to pull this off smoothly without breaking down on ya :P

But yeah, the vids are great

"This just goes to show how far above consoles PCs can be"? With the Cell and Blu-ray it would have 100x the barrells with 10x quality, 14.2 audio and 1080p graphics (that's true HD, not your laughable 1920x1200)

On a more serious note, I haven't bought Crysis yet. And no, I don't want to ask for Mr. Bittorro's help. This is one of those games that you NEED to buy.

you scared me for a sec fazz, I was reading your post thinking "He can't be serious"

my ears are bleeding, but that was sweet.

I still have fun screwing around in Garry's Mod...can't wait for games like Crysis where soo many more physics iterations can happen at once.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Yeah, he's quite right, if you go to the youtube page, it says right on it that it was a frame by frame render(and even doing that sometimes kills the high end computers). Watching stuff fall down is great, but there still are parts of this video(as well as some of the other videos) which show a strange flaw(which is in most games that use physics): being able to pull something out of a giant stack like this(while yes I'm just whining about realism), the games don't take in to account the enormous amount of weight that would be pushing down on the object grabbed out of the stack, it would be held so tightly it would be impossible to grab it(and of course they would probably crush the lower barrels or boxes anyways, but oh well. I do still enjoy such videos, and await the day when such things are possible in real time, on semi-affordable computers.

yeah i saw this a bit earlier it really is amazing

What we are starting to be able to do in physics now is very impressive but the meaningful use of this physics in game is still pretty small ...

A sad statement is that Mario Galaxy and Elebits for the Wii are probably using physics in far more interesting ways than most of the games with advanced physics engines even though the Wii is the one of the least powerful systems on the market.
