Forums - Gaming - Enslaved - what went wrong???

Just finished Enslaved Odyssey in West, thought it was a great game. I thought there was a serious problem with Unreal Engine 3 on the PS3 however, and perhaps there couldve been better boss fights. But althogether a very well written and executed experience.

So after 13 weeks:

Enslaved PS3: 155,583

Enslaved 360: 242,094

(I dont know how to screen dump the chart for the full 13 weeks of sales, it only goes up to 10).

So what do people think. Personally I think based on interviews with the developers. I've shoved one in here so people can see the type of philosophy Ninja Theory approached the title. Based on feedback from the developers, its seems obvious to me these developers worked very hard and were dedicated to this game becoming a success. I'm sorry for the developers that Enslaved has been a flop. Perhaps we in a gaming community can spread the word to our friends that this is a title worth picking up for the relatively cheap price now (almost in the bargain bin). But the title has been a flop tbh.

SO what do people think, what went wrong. It was a great game imo, well recieved, and well marketed it seems. And Ninja Theory have enjoyed a breakthrough success in the form of Heavenly Sword on the PS3. So what did they do wrong this time. Its possible that when it hits the bargain bin this could possibly do 1mil.

Oh and off topic, what are the thoughts on the reboot of DmC. This isnt to slag off Ninja Theory, we've had a lot of that in the last few months. Theres no need for that here, but I am very concerned about the use of Unreal Engine 3 for the DmC reboot.

It fell through the cracks of a cut-throaght business. It's that simple. Sadly.

It's like evolution, you don't have to fail to go extinct.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I think marketing failed to point out what was unique about that game. IMO marketing a game is really important for games. It can be amazing, but the game needs to resonate with gamers.

It could also have been a poor timing for that kind of game. Game companies may need to start scheduling when they release their games similar to how movie production companies schedule the types of movies that are released.

Namco.

Heavenly Sword sold what it did cause it was a PS3 exclusive at a time when no dev was taking to learn how to utilize the PS3 for anything.  Enslaved just got lost in the release of other games.  I personally didn't buy it because I have a lot of games to get through and I don't have the time.  Though if I didn't have a lot of games to get through I'm still not to sure I would have bought it; the overall combo system was severely lacking from what I played in the demo so they didn't hook me with its gameplay.  I'd only get it for its story.  Though why I feel it didn't sell as well as it probably should, I'd have to say it didn't have some kind of useless online for the youngens to get their instant gratification (But that's another thread of discussion).

The so called hardcore only buys games that are hyped or s franchisegame

Its not easy for new ip  in FPS times.

I can't help but wonder if it would have got more attention as an exclusive published by Sony or MS.

I'm gonna just say marketing could be an issue.

Yes, blame the core gamers for buying other core games with more value.

I'm sure about that, but I can't blame people for believing that. Hell, Heavenly Sword sold 1.45m to date. I would be surprised if Enslaved hit 1m on both platforms combined. I believe the full release window at that time is to blame, though.
