Forums - General - How was there not controvery over "The Invention of Lying?"

I watched it... and quite literally RIcky Gervais invents Christianity.

Of all the silly things churches get upset about... this went out of it's way to be offensive to religious people... and nothing.

He wrote 10 commandments on two Pizza hut boxes.

I found it funny as it's pretty hard to offend me outside of rape based joke... but I mean, i can imagine 9 out of every 10 people getting upset about it easy.

Is it just... nobody saw it?

Movie was too ho-hum to illicit any type of response from the Christian community.

Barely got a response from me. If it was not for Rob Lowe, it would've been one of the most boring things since The American & George Clooney.

That doesn't make sense. This movie came out before The American.

It's got a 57% Rotten Rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it's made $32 million globaly, so I think it's your later consensus that's spot on.

My parents saw it and said it was an okay movie. Never said anything about any religious controversy though.

Let me correct myself.

"I have not seen a movie that boring since I saw The American, with George Clooney. I saw the Invention of Lying on DVD, and The American in theaters."

We good? :P

Well I mean, not seeing something has never stopped people before... look at the mass effect controversy.

I think it was more due to the fact that he invented christianity is why it didnt. If he came out and said there is no god straight away then christianity might get moody, oooor it wasnt a big enough movie. The church tends to advertise by attacking something that is "controversial" no point doing it in 'The Invention of Lying'.
