Forums - General - Mods deleting post contents is stupid.

Words Of Wisdom said:
I'm really tired of seeing people getting banned and then finding a bunch of blank comments when I try to see why they got banned.

I just saw that Gamer Girl Elite was banned but many of her most recent posts are blank. It's really hard to see if a ban is justifiable if the posts that resulted in it are edited away.

I can only assume that a mod banned her for fun and deleted the contents of her posts to cover-up the fact that she had done nothing to deserve a ban. The reason for it in her profile supports this claim too: "Reason for ban: It's much needed."

All and all, that's pretty disappointing. VG Chartz needs better moderators.

1. Its not the mods, its the system (easy, isn't it, find a post from 1 banned member with text!)

2. And he deserved the ban, I guess I am not the only one who recomended it today by reporting the thread responsible.

3. Whats about the mod bashing here? Its really funny that after every decision they make, they get bashed. If they not ban, they just do that, because its a Wii troll. If they do it, it was just for fun.

What about thanking the mods for a change, trying to keep this community clean and nice?  I also don't agree on everything they do (Hell my finger would cross the ban button much much faster), but they have a hell of a job (being mods and ops for years in a lot of forums and chats, I know that).

Which begets the question; is banning any fun?

I blame your avatar.

1) How is it that the posts of other banned members are still visible?  Whoa, just did a search and saw that you're right.  When did this extremely craptastic "feature" get added?

2) How do I know the ban was deserved? If I can't see the posts, the ban could be deserved or otherwise. I can't tell.

3) Call it whatever you like, it's dissatisfaction. If it's really the website that hides the post contents then it's misplaced dissatisfaction.

4) I don't thank people for having fun playing video games. I don't thank people for moderating. It's not a burden, it's a choice. If it's too hard or annoying, they shouldn't be moderators in the first place. If they are moderators, it should be because they enjoy helping the community. The role they perform is its own reward.

Just take my word for it, the ban of GGE was justified.

It's hard to get better members if every new poster is accused of being Gballzack.

my first profile (highwaystar) got banned before I posted anything

I thought you banned the Girl gamer elite account because its just another Gballzack alt account

See, here's the thing. The basic premise of justice is the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Unfortunately, nothing in the system allows us to find irrefutable proof that a poster is an alt account. So as seemingly bloody obvious as it is, we can't really ban anyone just on suspicion alone. All we can do is pay extra attention to those posters.

GGE earned his one week ban. The fact that it was for exactly what gballzack got banned for is, until proven otherwise, just coincedental.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

While i agree that deleting post contents is stupid you can still see it by visiting the profile of the one that got banned and press view all posts.

Edit: Oops Rhonin said it already ^^

 1. The feature was added because i requested it. I asked ioi to make it so that its possible to remove people's sigs since some ex-members, hus, posted pron pics in his sig which we mods couldnt remove. It's sstill possible to get the original post back by hitting the quote button or going to the user's profile and viewing all posts. Remember ioi hand coded these forums. He is working on improvements in everyway. Just have to wait.

2. Most bans come with a reason, check the banned person's profile for the reason. We only dont put a reason when we have an attack on the site.

3. Deal with it.

4. So what, you dont thank your best teachers at the end of each year because you enjoyed their classes? Thats completely disrespectful.

1) Why couldn't you just edit the post to remove the pics? I realize signatures are trickier.

2) I'd like to think so.

3) It's lame and craptastic. The feature you asked for is a bad one and a half-arsed solution to the problem.

4) Yes and no. I don't make it a point to thank every single teacher I have. I thank the ones that surpass my expectations and do a truly excellent job at teaching. The ones who just do their job and nothing more already get a paycheck. The ones who can go that extra mile and take education to the next level get a well-deserved "thank you" and possibly another student in their future classes. It's an old business principle "Reward results, not effort."

Perhaps a better system would be to disable signaures for people who have been banned. This keeps everyone happy and stops the problem you noticed. The reason for a ban is not always clearly explained in that one line under the profile.
