I thought pre GTA IV combat was incredibly wonkie, but you can't beat Guns N Roses(and the miriad of other available songs in the game).

The Frogger Music on the Atari 800 - the game is repetitive, but liked the techo honky tonk music.
Don't know how fair this is (as I have not played the game but have NO desire to), but Lair is simply one of the most amazing "too good even for a video game" soundtrack I've ever heard. Crappy quality youtube vid ...
The way the strong themes are introduced in the prologue and then expanded upon and woven so effectively throughout the remainder of the tracks all building to a gloriously resounding climax in the final two tracks is a textbook example of how to create a timeless symphonic score.
