Forums - Nintendo - 3DS battery life is 3-to-5 hours for 3DS games

Well I was hoping it would have a longer battery life than that so that I can play during long long flights. But other than that I hardly ever take my handhelds outdoors and play outdoors. I only ever take them out when I go to a friend's place to play or long flights. Other than that it's not much of an issue for me personally but yeah I was kinda expecting more battery life.

I never cared about battery life as I use all my handhelds only at home.

Then what's the purpose with a handheld?

That is a pretty lame defense considering that it's very reasonable to assume most people playing handhelds or other portable devices are... using them on the go?

Maybe it's just me.

I say wait for practical tests to show up after the finished product is commercially available.

It isn't a stretch to assume that 3DS games will consume more power any way you cut it though. It's a given. Unless Nintendo made the 3DS batteries proportionately larger than the DSi, it will take a hit on battery performance.

If that's a deal-breaker, either you wait for a lower power model in another two years or you just buy an extra battery or two if you're that much of a "hardcore" portable gamer. Make yourself a battery bandoleer if you have to.

Purpose, lame defense? I'm not defending anything and I can use my handheld wherever I want.

To be able to play a good JRPG, something as rare as a good sonic game on home consoles.

Sad but true

Completely true xD.

The lack of quantity of good JRPGs on home consoles this gen is quite astounding, especially when you pit them against amazing quality handheld games such as Dragon Quest IX, Mario&Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Kingdom Hearts: BBS, The World Ends With You, Crisis Core, and many others.

If there's a woman in the household and only one TV, you will quickly figure out how valuable a handheld truly is.

Haha, good thinking.
