Crytek (6 years partnership with MS - I would take this one over any 1st party on the PS3) Firebird Epic (will be acquired before Gears is released) Remedy (will be acquired before Alan Wake is announced) 343 Mistwalker THQ (working on 2 exclusives for 360 currently) Rare (working on AAA exclusive for core audience) Lionhead Turn 10 2K Marin (currently doing XCOM) Ruffian
plenty of unannounced information, MS will be loaded in 2011-12 mark my words.. |
I really doubt the fit of Epic for MS as a purchase. Epic have so many contracts with other companies around their engine it would be a real pain for Microsoft as they would inherit them. Microsoft would find itself responsible for supporting a ton of multi-platform titles based on the Unreal Engine. That wouldn't work for MS at all.
I'm sure 360 will have plenty of games - but I really don't see then purchasing Epic. I think only EA or Activision look likely to be able to absorb those elements of Epic, and even then would either want to be responsible for supporting the other's titles? Imagine, EA having to provide Unreal Engine support for Activision published titles, or vice versa.
No, Epic's large middleware business makes them a tricky aquisition as any purchaser couldn't just kill or walk away from their numerous contractual obligations with many other companies.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
