I really doubt the fit of Epic for MS as a purchase. Epic have so many contracts with other companies around their engine it would be a real pain for Microsoft as they would inherit them. Microsoft would find itself responsible for supporting a ton of multi-platform titles based on the Unreal Engine. That wouldn't work for MS at all. I'm sure 360 will have plenty of games - but I really don't see then purchasing Epic. I think only EA or Activision look likely to be able to absorb those elements of Epic, and even then would either want to be responsible for supporting the other's titles? Imagine, EA having to provide Unreal Engine support for Activision published titles, or vice versa. No, Epic's large middleware business makes them a tricky aquisition as any purchaser couldn't just kill or walk away from their numerous contractual obligations with many other companies. |
what about 2nd party? Epic can still handle the engine crap but develops mainly for 360
