Forums - Microsoft - KINECT is NOT selling because of $500 Million Ad Budget

May I quote you on my sig on the "selling for decades to come" comment?

Around the Network

Will it have legs? Most people might be wowed by it, say they have to have it. But will they continue to use it with it's limited game types (no fps)?

I doubt it. It is more than likely purchased with the 4GB 360 and seen as a deal. Most people I know who have it shelved it already.

It's amazing how often you can look at someone's name on this site and know almost exactly what they're going to say before you read their post.

Of course this goes for the OPer too.

You wish, give it up Wagram you try too hard.

OT: Yup seems to be getting crazy word of mouth, havn't met a person yet who hasn't enjoyed it apart from the odd 1 or few dozen PS3 members on this site.

Trying to hard? Yeah right. If anyone is trying to hard it is you with your constant crusade to praise the xbox.

That's an insult to Microsoft promotion dept.  Sorry, but $500 million has LOT to do with Kinect's success.  With that said, I have Kinect, and it's not bad tech at all.  If it was bad, it wouldn't have kept selling no matter how much they poured into it.  Microsoft just had enough faith in its device to put this money into it.

Yeah but there are more times I diss it than you praising it.

I dunno where you get this thing where I praise it to high heavens, I enjoy the 360 and think it and its games are great, it's nothing incredible though :-S

You on the other hand are all one sided. Never a good thing to say.

That is EXACTLY what you can do with Wagram, if he's in a MS/360/Kinect thread, he's dissing it.

My favorite game this gen is a fucking Xbox game. I'm looking forward to many things Xbox next year. I'm just not looking forward to garbage.

Trying to tell people that Kinect is SOLELY selling on word of mouth alone is a fucking sham. It had a MASSIVE marketing budget.

Wrong.

The initial sales, i.e. Nov/Dec, are directly attributed to the massive advertising campaign.

The sales of 2011 and beyond (don't know why you think it will be around for "decades") will be based on word of mouth, which I agree is been very positive.

For the most part, this.  Though, I do believe the product not being completely horrible has added to its steady sales.  But like you said, Nov and Dec sales have A LOT to do with the large campaign.  It also has a lot to do with the holiday shopping craze, combined with it being the "hot, new thing."  Once we get into late January/early Febuary, we'll see how well Kinect's word of mouth can sustain its sales.
