Forums - Sony - What does Ps3 need?

It has everything you could ask for..So what does it need still to outsell Wii/Xbox360?

Well we all know that the best doesn't always sell the best, just look at Firefly!

Uncharted 3, inFamous 2, Motorstorm Appocolypse, Killzone 3 and others mean that it has the best software line-up (for me at least) even if it doesn't have the highest sales

Well, to outsell 360, it needs a lower pricepoint before irrelevance and to outsell Wii, it needs that and Nintendo IPs.

No it doesn't...PS2 didn't have them and dominated the GameCube.

Yeah, but we're talking about what PS3 needs now, right? It doesn't matter what the PS2 did then -- the competition, the brand name, the power of Nintendo IPs, the entire situation was different.

The PS3 could very well outsell the Wii if they would have the same price tag,and Sony's IPs,the multiplatform titles, are more than enough to balance the board,game-wise speaking. It doesn't need other IPs,since it has some of the best out there.

It's only a matter of price.

Sell to the mainstream

In America almost only "hardcore" gamers buy it whereas the Wii and 360 have hit mainstream appeal.  I pretty much never at work see moms and older aged people coming in and buying PS3's.  Its either 360's or Wii's for pretty much all of them.

The fact is that Sony has completely shot themselves in the foot this entire gen and while they have made an excellent core gaming machine they have failed to really catch the attention of more casual gamers in North America like the other systems have.

This post is WAY off.

Sony IP's have ZERO attention from the mainstream crowd.

Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, and other Sony exclusives are not selling at all to the mainstream gamer only to the core ones.  Price has nothing to do with it.  Sony's IP's aren't even close to as powerful as Nintendo's even if they are arguably better games.

It needs to load videos from spankwire faster.  Not sure if that will help sales, but it would make me happier.

Not necessarily. Sony IPs are nothing compared to Nintendo IPs saleswise and third party support isn't enough to counter the power of the Wii series and Mario. Even if they were the same price, it is more likely that the average "casual" shopper who buys the Wii will buy the console with Wii Fit and New Super Mario Bros Wii over the console with great media support, but brand names they've never heard of.

That's because Nintendo systems have sold more this generation...And I didn't say Sony's IPs come close to Nintendo's,did I?I said Sony has enough IPs,and multiplatform IPs on their PS3,to edge out the Wii,if they would have the same price tag...

To outsell 360 nothing... to outsell Wii a price cut of $200.

I think the PS3 already has what it really needed, which was Mass Effect 2, and of course Mass Effect 3. which was despite the success of Halo, imo was Microsofts crown jewel in its console library.

my opinion is that for the PS3 this gen wont end for a very long, time, i think that the Wii 2 and the PS3 will go toe to toe with each other, maybe with the next Xbox as well, if MIcrosoft decide to release one or just continue with the 360. so i dont really think a price cut is necessary until 2012 tbh.

but what i personally want from Sony is to bring some JRPG support here. they already have covered most of the genres, to beat Microsoft worldwide seems possible, but i think beating Microsoft in the US might be impossible - so i have no idea what Sony can do for that region. but i would be very satisfied if they could bring over some JRPGs now. oh bringing Kevin Butler ads over to Europe would probabily help A LOT as well imho.

A price drop and more importantly, some original games that actually matter to the casual mainstream audience that made Nintendo and now Xbox so successful.
