Actually I'm playing FF8 right now, bought it on PSN and I'm playing it on my PSP.

I hate the GF system as compared to other FF games, its really annoying to keep junctioning/unjunctioning magic and GFs.. other than that its a solid game.

Its a game that left me with some fond, but also uneasy and frustrating memories. The good memories were the break limits, characters, story, and GF summons etc. But the other two were the fact that when I stumbled on this game, this copy had the 2nd disk missing; this copy was given to my brother by some co-worker he worked with once. So when I reached the ending of the first disc, it was impossible to continue without the  2nd disc. For years I was stuck on the first disc. It was really difficult finding another fresh copy with all four discs.

Then one day, I went to my local gamestop and found a used copy for 20 bucks. Bought it without hesitation. I finaly thought that I was finaly going to complete this game. As I reached the 3rd disc, my ps2 broke and I was stuck yet again. Since I wasn't able to afford another one and my brother moved out taking along his ps2. I couldnt continue. Then in 09 I finaly bought a replacement and continued, but my original file became corrupt so I had to start all over. This has definitely been huge quarrel for me.

On a side note; even though the, music is very relaxing it can very gloomy at times which is the uneasy part of my memoires with this game. Plus the two islands that are closest to heaven and hell really disturb me since they got some freakishly strong monsters and creepy looking ones.

Ehh, terrible story and terrible characters make terrible game which was ff8. It was a good game in general but compared to other FFs of the time they blew 8 out of the water, 6 and 7 were like perfection with everything. At least it's still a hell of a lot better than the new FFs.

I played FF8 after playing FF9 and FF7, and compared to those games i felt the story and characters were not good. Squall was simply too annoying, same thing really for the other characters;  the story was a bit boring tbh. i mean its just the whole, SEED thing. i mean in other FFs our heroes had reasons and motives that influenced their actions, in FF8 we just did it because we were SEEDs. time kompression, Ultimecia, etc, it just wasnt as engaging imo as FF7 or 9.

the problem i think was that Sakaguchi has little involevment in the title as he was working on the Spirts WIthin motion picture at the time. so Kitase pretty much made the central theme of the game a teenage romanace, and imo this was the same problem with FF13. way too much teenage drama, not enough mature storytelling like FF7,9 or 12 imho.

the battle system was okay, Squall's limit break pretty much was the battle system, if the game didnt have that it couldve been much, much worst. i mean we had to draw, draw and draw magic, then junction, then draw, draw, draw. magic was obsolete, because if you wasted it, you would be screwed. however the use of photo realisim was a welcome change.

i dont have much respect for FF8 anymore tbh, because its made by the same people who made FF13, who i feel after FF13, have no idea how to make a compelling story and engaging characters. they create a story with too much teenage melodrama, i really enjoyed FF7, and 9. i think FF8 really hurt the sales of FF9, and i cant forgive Kitase and Toriyama for creating a new IP then putting FF13 on box. i think FF8 shows where things went fatally wrong, and Sakaguchi shouldnt have let them do it imho.

You should hate FFVII to if you hate FFVIII because of the team that made it they are for the most part the same team.

I am replaying FFVII,FFVIII and FFIX right now on my PS3 and FFVIII is like all FF's an awesome game.

Nomura Tetsuya and Nojima Kazushige collective idea give FFVIII's story a similar feeling to the visual novel School Days was fun and refreshing.

The characters are awesome, the battle system is awesome but dose tack a but it tacks a  bit of  getting used to. and the cutscenes are awesome.

I have sad it before and I will say it again.

someone did say once that with some of the Fans that FF has FF doesn't need haters.

I know some people that stopped playing FF when FFVII was released because they sore FFVII as the death of FF I also know some people that stopped after FFVIII because they hated it. I also know some who hate FFIX because of the Fantasy Setting and Chibi Characters as well as and some who hate FFX and a lot of people who hate FFXII with a passion. ans some who hate on FFXIII as well. and some who hate FFX-2 despite it having some of the best gameplay in any FF.

With the FF series I am always able to find some elopements in all FF Games that I can love. It is sad that a lot of Ff fans can not find something in every FF that they can love.

Agreed.

I'm a big FF fan, but I think VIII is only very good compared to IV, VI and IX which IMO are among the best games ever created.

I loved the space scene and the soundtrack was superb but they don't totally make up for the utterly cocked up magic system

I dont hate FF8, it some very good elements, like photorealisim, dynamic battles, of course without the limit system these battles would probabily not be as dynamic. but i felt the story never really became exciting, like other FFs, it was always really a dense teenage drama to me, where you would be more invested in the feelings and emotions of your characters instead of telling a compelling story, a lot like what i felt was a big problem in FF13. and its clear to me its because this is the same team.

the difference with FF7 is Sakaguchi, who had huge input in the story and script. and theres probabily other factors i dont know about. either way i think the problems with FF8 have become more apparent with age because of things like FF10-2 and FF13. but some things were well done imo like music and graphics. but i do think that FF8 alientated a lot of fans, because the draw/junction system was too demanding, and not accessible like the materia system. so i think that FF9s sales were adversely affected by FF8 unfortunatly.
