This is interesting.  When did it become accepted "knowledge" that ME was BROKEN on the 360?

in fact, Metacritic and Game Rankings have ME on 360 HIGHER than the PC version.  Personally, I've played through ME1 three times on my 360 and never experienced "semi-freezing" or "wonky" gameplay.  Sure the long-elevator rides could be a pain in the rear, but I never really had any other problem with this game.

Back to the original topic, I think it's cool that PS3 users get all the DLC (particularly as it appears the game is being priced as a new release), but to suggest that an interactive comic is superior to playing Mass Effect, a ~90% reviewed game?  ridiculous.

Different metrics. You can't compare the two. Aggregate reviews cannot be measured against each other like this, especially when different platforms are being compared where expectations are so divergent. Not unless you want a deeply imperfect result, that is.

I've played both PC and 360 ME1 several times (I love the game that much -- the 360 version was my first playthrough this year), and the PC version is many, many times better. I can play ME1 at 1080p at 60fps on my livingroom TV with my PC, for example, and there are no glitches, hitches, or issues. The same cannot be said for 360. At all. Really, the two versions do not compare well. The 360 version, by comparison, is a mess. Indeed, the biggest problem with the PC version is that it holds on to too may console mechanics, such as the utterly terrible inventory system which should really have been reprogrammed for PC. Beyond that, it's hard to have any issues with the PC iteration of the game.

Still, for all it's faults, I still quite enjoyed ME1 on 360.

I'm not suggesting that the PC version wasn't better, only suggesting that if the 360 version was "broken" as has been suggested in this thread, how could it still have been rated so high?

My argument is not that the PC version is inferior in any way.

Mass Effect is such a mess of game, that it's not even worth dragging myself through all it's technical issues and poor designs  just so I can 'truly' understand it's story. I've got it on my 360 and the game just drags, not because the world and plot isn't interesting, but because the game semi freezes just when I'm turning around and the gameplay is just so wonky.

I might buy Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, only because I'd rather play the critically acclaimed sequel, without going through the broken original, while also getting the chance to understand the plot and make the choices from the first game.

It's hard to pass up such a highly praised game and I'm willing to put my money down if it means that I won't have to go through Mass Effect 1.

so you got a way through ME1, gave up but never bought ME2 for the 360?  but now will buy it for the PS3? odd.

I never could finish the first game on PC. it's full of so many isssues that hindered my enjoyment to the point where I gave up. I hear the second one is an imporvement (especially the combact) but I never bothered to check because I never finished the first. I read about ME2 but I am not sure if I want to play it but If I decided to, this comic me1 could be useful.

EDIT: he replied with similar explanation.

In fairness, several broken titles have been rated high (such as GTA IV).

On the other hand, even with Mass Effect's misstepes, I wouldn't call it broken.

Fallout is broken -.-

I guess I'm reading too much into things but I detect a sense of "Sour Grapes" when it comes to Mass Effect 1.  I'll drag Uncharted into this just to illustrate a point.  We have a game that was universally praised by critics and gamers alike.  we had a sequel that improved on the original in every way.  Now, while the stories in U1 and U2 aren't as closely tied together as the stories of ME1 and ME2, wouldn't you agree that the two compliment each other very well?

Now I'd rrecommend U2 to any gamer that can hold a controller.  I'd recommend that they play U1 first if it was possible.  If they couldn't play U1 for some reason, I WOULD NOT pretend that U1 was such a terrible game that it's not worth playing or that it's better not to play it at all.

With all of that said, I ask this:  Play Mass Effect 2.  I think it's one of the best gaming experiences of the year.  Don't hate on Mass Effect 1.  It's a great game, too.

Friend of mine said he played the PS3 demo and that the cutscenes were juttery and that the framerate is unstable. If this is true for the entire game then it is definitely not a 93%

My plan is to borrow a friend's Xbox 360, play the first Mass Effect on it, buy Mass Effect 2 for the PS3, make the same decisions in the interactive comic as I will in the first game, and then enjoy the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2.

Just read through the comic and you will understand the main event of what happened to Cmdr Sheppard and his crew. Though you will missed all those funny conversations in the super slow elavators between you and your crew but hey.

SPOILERS!

The first Uncharted was a very short experience and it's faults (bullet sponges and screen tearing in the first 2 hours) doesn't make it feel like a chore to play. Mass Effect 1 is a long game and so it requires some heavy investment, the time it took me to become a Spectre was probably around the same time it took for me to finish Uncharted. With a long game, it needs to be fun to play and I found that Mass Effects combat was sub par, the frame rate was really bad, the game tore like hell, my squad AI was stupid and kept getting me killed and I was just not very happy with the overall experience.

I usually have a really high tolerance when it comes to games,, but when a few key issues like gameplay and a really bad frame rate come into play, it really hinders my experience and I'd rather not spend the next 20 hours going through all that.

I've read and heard that Mass Effect 2 fixes all these issues and it's a much more stream lined experience and that's what I wanted out of the first game. Like I mentioned earlier, I'd rather wait until I can pick the PS3 version up for around $30, because it matches up to what I want, which is a pretty full Mass Effect experience, without playing the first Mass Effect.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

As others have mentioned, broken games can score highly. However, that said, ME1 plays alright on 360. Sure, it's flawed in many ways, which I don't think can be denied (it was certainly flawed in my playthrough -- in particular, some sections I found frustratingly terrible to play, and I'm not even going near the silly lifts), but I wouldn't call it broken. Indeed, precious few games are completely broken -- just flawed in one way or another.

For me, ME1 was worth playing for the story alone, flaws or not. Several times. Sure, much better on PC, but playable enough on 360.

I agree with the others,PS3 owners should play ME on PC,and then play ME2 on their PS3.

If you have a PS3,and have already played ME,then lucky you.
