For those questioning the MS marketing budget timeframe for Kinect, the $500 million is for the launch only.  This includes standard marketing avenues plus deals for 400 million cans of Pepsi and Diet Pepsi, 60 million cereal and snack packages from Kellogg's, major Burger King promotions, Youtube home page marketing blitz, major ad spending on Nickelodean, Disney, Dancing With The Stars, Glee, People and InStyle magazine, a large Times Square launch event plus hundreds of staffed Kinect demo kiosks.  All that money has already been spent.

Don't forget they spent $100 million on the Halo 3 launch.

I think it is due to the fact that Sony is in a lot of uncharted areas where Xbox's main areas are Europe and the English speaking nations.

You mean NA and English speaking nations?

You just love trolling my posts don't read what I said, America is an English speaking nation so i didn't mean that. Also I never referred to Europe as Xbox main although from what MS has been saying they have been doing very well in Europe main so my point stands. I was clearly saying what it was easier to track MS numbers. MS is getting sold to countries where the numbers would be a lot clearer, Sony not so.

Don't be annoying, you are getting a track record for this on my posts.

It was not trolling... I just really didn't get what you said... now it's clearer.

Nintendo Won 2010 yay!!!!!!!!!

Don't need a link, that's how marketing works.  You pay for the ads spots, you dump the money into the TV ad producers accounts, you buy up the ad product volume, etc...   It's not like they pay for 200 million cans of Pepsi for the launch and then another 200 million cans 6 months later.  That's a waste in marketing terms.

There is also the logic factors.   Halo 3 had a $100 million launch ad campaign and Kinect launch marketing has been far bigger than Halo 3 was.   There is also the fact that you don't announce marketing budgets 10 months prior to the start of your next fiscal year.   It was pretty well understood by anyone with a business background that the longest term the $500 million would even account for if it were spread out is June 30th, 2011 as that's the last day of their fiscal year.  But again that takes out the fact that you pay up front for marketing to begin with.   When you buy ad time, you puchase a certain number of commercials to be run for a certain time period during certain time slots.   You don't pay as you go.

BS?  So I explain how ad funding is dealt with and that budgets are up front and certainly don't extend beyond a company's fiscal year (at least not in the discolsed dollar amount) and you wish to you just swipe it all aside as BS?

Or you can read the original New York Post article or Microsoft's own Microsoft news Center to sum up the spending as being funding for the launch period.

Do you have evidence, industry experience or logic to the contrary?

Something lost in translation there.

This french article: http://gamekyo.com/groupnews_article16526.html

Says Nintendo won't sell less than 1m Wiis this year (well, 2010) and 1.4m DS to get a userbase of around 5m Wiis and 10m DS systems.

I've posted this before.

100,000 Kinects in France apparently.
Both Wii red and black MK bundles have each sold more than 150,000 units in France this holiday.

Are you excluding Gears of War as well, or am I missing something here?

I was meaning another new franchise over 5M for the generation. Whoops if I wasn't clear.
