Forums - PC - A JRPG Just Hit 100k Sold On Steam - Recettear!

Good story all round- the developer secures their short term future, builds up a healthy customer base for their next game and shows other developers that there's money to be made even with such a niche title. The only thing they did wrong- which is quite ironic considering what the game is about- was reducing the price so quickly by bundling it with the Indie pack and effectively selling it for $1. As they acknowledge, they should have reduced the price to $5 or whatever first, then bundled it and they would likely have made more money. Still, it's nice to hear such a success story and it's well deserved for such an excellent little game.

Capitalism, ho!

I've never even heard of this game.Sadface.

I generally dislike JRPGs but I can't really ever say no to a well made indie title! So when I get my next paycheck I'll probably buy it (if I remember too that is!)

well if it's the gameplay you don't like you have nothing to worry about with this game ;)

I wonder how much The Last Remnant sold on PC. If Recettear sold 100k in just 4 months, I'm confident that TLR sold considerably more so far.

IDK the PC version got some bad press for it's control scheme etc on PC, and didn't really review that well TBH and it wasn't exclusive I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't sell that much better...

Yeah, I doubt TLR sold that many. Aside from the relatively poor reviews that Zarx mentioned, it was also a full price release, and didn't get the massive discount that resulted in Recettear selling nearly half its copies.

I never heard of problems with the control scheme on PC. Also, didn't the PC version actually score better than the Xbox 360 version, despite coming out later?

I know the PC version was very polished, with virtually no bugs, and very well optimized.

The Last Remnant's biggest strength was that it was a JRPG, and the only JRPG from a big publisher. It already had a few sales on Steam which seemed to have been very successful, and Square Enix increasing it's support of Steam tells me that they were pleased with how TLR turned out (TLR was their first steamworks game)

Actually, was TLR a part of the Eidos/ Square pack? If so, I'd imagine it would have sold a fair few copies through that. Regardless, it does show there's a reasonable market for JRPGs on the PC, especially for the more savvy publishers, so hopefully there'll be a few more.
