Forums - PC - A JRPG Just Hit 100k Sold On Steam - Recettear!

Today we have another annoucement to make.

Recettear: An Item's Shop's Tale has continued to sell since our previous announcement. At this point, we can therefore announce...

That Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale has sold over one hundred thousand copies as of this date.

This means... well, it means a whole lot of things, really. Andrew Dice's blog post about this event covers most of the more pertinent points.

We at Carpe Fulgur would still like to thank everyone who made this possible - the distributors who supported us ceaselessly, the news outlets who continued to give us attention, and most of all, the fans who continued to buy our product (we know a fair number of you gifted the game around whatnot) and spread the word about this humble little shop simulator we localized. Without you, we wouldn't be here today, and we wouldn't be in a position to bring you more great titles in 2011.

Happy New Year, everyone. The coming year looks bright, and it's all thanks to you.

An indie JRPG just sold over 100k in less than 4 months on Steam! Japanese publishers should learn from Recettear and embrace our Steam gods, and also the lesser Demi-Gods like GOG, Impulse and Gamersgate.

Happy to hear they had even more success than the last time they posted about their sales, Recettear is a very fun game and I look forward to Carpe's next localization effort.  Steam could turn out to be a great place to get some indie Japanese games that we never would have seen in the West before which is great to see.

...

where does it say it sold on steam.

In the last news they said:

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale has sold over 26,000 copies between all distributors as of this news posting.

the next news says: we have reached 100k.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Also while the game is awesome, it spent a huge amount of time being priced 5 bucks or bundled with other games, so that 100k doesn't seem that impressive to me.

I think its relatively impressive given the platform. PC gamers aren't generally known to play JRPG's that  much and it is quite a niche release.

Can't argue there, but I think the lack of JRPGs is the reason PC gamers aren't generally known to play it.

that is a hundred thousand copies from all distributors not just steam tho from this http://www.carpefulgur.com/drakblog/?p=9 blog post the lions share were from steam as it's the only distributor they specifically mention. The post is a very interesting read as well and from the sound of things we can expect many more indie games from non English speaking countries in the future especially from Japan.

I can't wait to see what they bring over next ; )
