But i will add this if it were not for sony first party i think i would not have even purchased the ps3 at all. Sony truly has the best devs in the world and ND could get blood out of a stone when it comes to quality.

I mean forget about the PS3's power or that shit but

Ps1= crash bandicoot. Tell me a game that looked better at each one of those games launch?

Ps2= Jak. Now tell me a PS2 game which looked better than them at the time of relase?

Ps3= Nothing has changed

Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X say hello!!

Not really...  The only game that seems to have been influenced by a Sony first party game is the upcoming Tomb Raider.  I don't think any their games have had any real kind of influence like say the Halo series has.  Probably the most influential games that have come out in the past decade are Halo, Wii Sports, Call of Duty 4, and Grand Theft Auto 3.

Has Ps3 exclusives set the bar for how the way games look like

I think your PS3 exclusives have set the bar higher.  The real question is how much do 3rd party developers really care when it might or might not be worth the effort?  Being multi-platform, it's potentially easier to make a profit on a game with a bigger userbase.  But will making that same game better worth the effort in potential profits of attracting more potential buyers?

Nail hit squarely on the head there.

PS3 exclusives will be technically better than a multilplat.

However they cost more to produce and with a 50 percent cut in potential audience have a much harder task in making profit.

In a commercial sense exclusives are a bad idea.

If by looks you mean graphics then probably.  PS3 has certainly seen the most custom engines / titles such as Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Wipehout HD, etc. so yes, very probably it has.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Heavy Rain's genre defining moment happened 11 years ago............ it's called Shenmue.

Very very different types of games, did you play either?

I think Heavenly Sword really got other devs to sit up and take notice of using motion capture in cinematics but other than that step I'd say Epic are largely responsible for driving the graphics style this gen.  The unreal engine has behind so many of this gens huge games that it is impossible to ignore it's influence imo.  Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 were very pretty titles with huge amounts of polish but I don't think they've driven other developers on to attain the same standards and they've not contributed to others titles in the way Epic have done with the Unreal engine.

Are they really that different? perhaps you should look around the interweb and see just how many times that Shenmue & Heavy Rain get mentioned in the same breath..............

You know....... The king and the pauper.

Ditto........... and one is clearly more groundbreaking than the other.
