Forums - Gaming - Graphic violence prevalent in HD games *another rant*

Okay maybe I'm out of the loop because I quit gaming after the SNES era but then got back into it when I bought a Wii several years ago.

I thought about buying a 360 but that was until I downloaded a lot of demos on a relatives' 360 to try out. Call me 'weak sauce' all you want but I couldn't stomach all the vulgarity, violence, morbidity a lot of the games offer. Quite honestly I was disgusted and shocked of what I saw. The realistic graphics made it all the more worse.

Violence was in games was cool when I was a kid when Mortal Kombat came out, which was very controversial, but now I'm a grown man and I would actually feel embarrassed to play like Dante's Inferno or a game where you have a chainsaw as an arm.

Seriously, is this what many kids are playing these days? How can low brow stuff like this pass as entertainment these days? Have people lost their decency, morals and basic sensibilities? Is this the type of garbage teenage boys are feeding themselves with hours a week? Have people become so desensitized that they don't even blink an eye to it anymore? Then I hear stories from friends that most kids online curse you out and talk trash with harsh expletives.

Surely America is declining.

One thing for sure I would never allow my kids to have a 360/PS3. I wouldn't allow them to touch with a 20 foot pole.

Um, this is what many kids shouldn't be playing. That's why ratings like "M", "18plus", etc. exist.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

Although I understand your feelings you're being too sensitive. First, you don't need to play whatever you don't want to play. Second, as gross as some games might look, if they sell is that because some people want it. Don't spoil other people's fun. Finally, kids should only play whatever their parents allow. As far as I know, teen boys were always attracted to garbage (I was), so it is not surprising that violent trash sell. Responsible parents should educate their children better so that they less prone to curse and swear online (I would be glad if that ever happen) and be more attentive of what they are actually doing with their consoles.

If you won't let your kids have a 360 or PS3 because of the violent games they could play why would you let them have a Wii when they could play Manhunt or Madworld?  Sure violent games are more prevalent on PS3/360 but there are games without violence just as there are games with violence on the Wii.  If you don't think you could keep your kids from playing the violent games on 360/PS3 what's to stop them playing the violent games on the Wii?

Like Donkey Kong and Mario?

Someone needs to play Little Big Planet.

What I want from a game.

Gameplay > Story > Content > Graphics

Visual Style > Graphics

Smooth Camera, Intuitive Controls

Friction! When everything feels right!

You mean you grew out of PS3 / 360 games?? *gasp*

That's not how it works. You only grow out of Nintendo games!

I played doom 2 when i was about 7 or 8. How is that any different ? it's as graphic and violent as any game today.

Ofcourse i also played super mario.. But claiming that it's different today is really just lack of knowledge. Theres always been violent games.. Naturally technology allows it to look more realistic, but that doesnt make it any more fucked than the old games on older technology.

Maybe you just always played less violent games ?
