Pikmin 3 will make the year great.

I agree Mario Sports Mix and Pikmin 3 alone will would make 2011 great!

Not when one of those games hasn't even got a solid title.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Lol...very true

I can hope as I have been waiting years for the sequel to the best game ever made...Mario Sports Mix should keep me happy for a good time until a hopeful official announcement. I just hope with the 3DS coming out Nintendo won't ignore the Wii.

Rhythm Heaven is supposedly coming for Wii in 2011 and there is another Kirby Wii in development according to one of the Iwata Ask features. De Blob 2 is in February too isn't it?

I actually expect Dragon Quest X to be the Dec 2011 game in Japan. DQIX for DS was announced in 2007 and released in 2009. DQX for Wii was announced in 2009 and so I figure its coming late this year.

Nintendo doesn't really need much for Q1 2011 on Wii though. 3DS will have a huge initial shipment of games and systems.

Wii will have ten-twenty titles from 2010 and earlier still dong well in Q1 2011 in the West:

DKC Returns, Epic Mickey, Just Dance 2, Michael Jackson, Galaxy 2, NSMB Wii, Udraw, Wii Party, Wii Fit Plus, Goldeneye, Sonic Colors, MK Wii, JD1, Zoomba Fitness, etc.

Japan is ok too:

DKC, Kirby, Mario Sports Mix, NSMB WIi, MKWii, Galaxy 2, Taiko will do ok in Q1 2011.

I think we actually see some ports from Wii to 3DS and back again in 2011-2012 too.

I hope Pikmin 3 gets released for the Wii also, I wouldnt want it on 3DS and less so on the next console due to the longer wait, but it's still possible it will be a different console's game.

Bolded 1: Rhythm Heaven Wii is coming out next year in Japan, never confirmed for the West and it actually won't set the charts on fire, just like what happened with Rhythm Heaven Gold for the DS in the USA, which as well came out more than a year after it hit Japan.
The other Kirby game HAL has been developing is the DS game that comes out next year, there's no other Kirby Wii in development.

Bolded 2: DQX was announced on December 2008, but there hasn't been two consecutive main entries in the DQ series since the 80's that took less than 4 years in between, so as a good case scenario Japan will be seeing DQX in 2012 and the West luckily in 2013.

Wii needs a lot of new games and it's getting few to none next year. I think that was the main problem this year and last year's as well, the long game drought without system sellers. Nintendo just dropped support through the year and simply focuses on the Holidays which will hurt sales throughout the year A LOT. As for third parties, they've almost completely dropped support so I can't see any third party game helping the Wii from now on.

Uh, you mean since the 1990s. :P

DQIV (1990) -> DQV (1992) -> DQVI (1995)

And to counterpoint, there's never been a DQ announced before the previous installment released either.  Changes are DQIX and DQX had R&D cycles that overlapped, which a first for the series.

From a business perspective, this makes sense. Nintendo is releasing the 3DS in March, so they don't want to have big, new Wii titles competing with their system launch.

However, from a gamer's perspective, I think the line-up is actually pretty good and it's certainly not as bad as what we saw in early 2009. We will be getting Lost in Shadow, Mario Sports Mix, De Blob 2, The Conduit 2, and Lego Star Wars 3 all within January and February alone.  Zelda will probably come in the Summer along with The Last Story.

And yes, there is much more on the horizon that we can't see right now.

I'm pretty sure we'll see NOA release both Xenoblade and TLS in America.  TLS might not make it in 2011 though, depending on how long the localization takes (there's LOTS of voice).  Actually, I think NOA might even bite on the FF2 remake... the only reason we didn't get FF4 is because Tecmo refused to do more bugfixes or rework the controls.  If that's not an issue for FF2r, then I think it has a clear path over.

Other localizations I think we'll probably get are Earth Seeker, Rune Factory Oceans (2012 if Natsume does it, lol), Night of the Sacrifice, Samurai Warriors 3XL, Milestone Shooting Collection 2 and DQM Battle Road Victory (probably Nintendo themselves publishing this one).

Not to be pedantic, but nearly all of the games being mentioned are either:

1)  3rd party rather than Nintendo games; or

2)  ones that have already been released in Japan.

Well, in the west I think we'll see Nintendo publish...

  • Mario Sports Mix (2011)
  • Kirby's Epic Yarn (2011 EU)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (2011)
  • Xenoblade (2011)
  • Rhythm Heaven Wii (2011)
  • Fatal Frame: Crimson Butterfly (2011)
  • Dragon Quest Monsters: Battle Road Victory (2011)
  • The Last Story (2011/2012)
  • Inazuma Eleven Strikers (2012)
  • Dragon Quest X (2012?)
