Forums - Gaming - Is anyone shocked that PS3 version of COD BO is so close to Halo Reach???

Im not trying to turn this into a PS3 vs. 360 thing, i swear. but i am really shocked at these #s.  I never thought I would see the day. Halo is 360's flagship, its Mario if you will. But really I guess you could say that COD is PS3's Mario too, in terms of sales. Both are doing amazing, but some guy made a thread saying that PS3 version would surpass Reach, most people (including myself) thought he hits the bong a little too hard.

On a side note NFS: Hot Pursuit is 1mil on PS3 alone. 360 is right behind it, I love seeing racing games do good especially the good ones

It is surprising IMO. But CoD became the HD console crown jewel saleswise. Nothing will surpass it this gen on the PS360. Halo managed to grow to actually, but it pales in comparison to CoD.

I wonder when will the eventual decline of the FPS genre will begin. I have a feeling that mpore social friendly games will take its place. Lighter MMOs, full of microtransactions. But we will probably have to wait till next gen untill we will see a shift. And how big the decline will be? I have no clue. We still have to wait and see how GTA5 performs, to see how much damage was inflicted to the sandbox genre by the FPS games. Then, we could predict how much will FPSs drop next-gen

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

It's quite surprising yes.

i'd be scared if my crown jewl was a third party game as you say...

but in any case, yes, halo should fare better on 360 than it does... COD is not that deserving imho, but people like it so...

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Not surprising but I really dont like it either, that MW2 and soon to be Black Ops, will be the the best selling games on both the ps3 and 360, IMO i think halo is more deserving of that on 360 and it really pisses me off that games like Uncharted 2, littlebigplanet, GOW3 and MGS4 that IMO are head and shoulders better then MW2 or Black Ops dont sell as well. =/

To tell the truth not so much actually. Agree that Cod being the higest selling games on both 360 and ps3 is sad, other games deserve the sales much more.

Not really, as apart from the more devote Halo fans, people have seen Reach more as a spin-off than a full release which has impacted on sales. Call of Duty just continues to sell in droves

Not really.  The actual question it raises for me is why Sony 1st party FPS can't match the big 3rd party FPS?

Year by year the actual sales units of big third party titles have crept closer and closer on the two consoles - with 360 having early lead due to its head start - and more recently some big titles have sold more on PS3, even.

Yet, for some reason Playstation exclusive FPS can't match Halo in sales.  I find it strange as the 3rd party sales show their is an install base big enough to support huge FPS sales, and in general Playstation owners seem pretty loyal, yet titles like Killzone 2 sell a lot less despite being polished, feature rich and exlusive.

I'm always curious why this is.

They're certainly not selling badly. GT 5 has sold over 4m in about 4 weeks, and is still going strongly. Uncharted 2 has crossed 4m and God of War III is only just short of that number too

Apart from GT (which will get there), there are no mega franchises on PS3, but a lot of decent selling games which are (most importantly) very good games to play, and so with inFamous and Uncharted sequels coming out next year, I would expect both those franchises to grow too

I was being specific to FPS really.  I just find it interesting that, with clearly a large market for FPS on PS3 as proven by CoD, etc. PS3 owners don't show as much interest in FPS exclusives on the platform.  Obviously quality of title, etc. matters but Halo started as an unknown and grew.  If we take the view that say 10 million owners might buy CoD then I'm just always a little surprised that, say, 50% don't figure "hell, I'll try that exclusive FPS to see what it's like".

I'm not saying Killzone 2 or the like deserve more sales as such - I'm just surprised they don't get more interest just becuase there's a big enough FPS player base and not really that many exclusive FPS to compete with them vs a lot of average multi-platform FPS that tend to sell as expected.
