Forums - General - Guess who wants to legalize pot?!?

I think it should remain illegal but, not prosecuted or laws not enforced.

Because really half the fun is planning it out as a social event or saving for boring day. Plus this will still scare many people into not doing stuff like driving under the influence but won't really throw innocent people in jail.

If pot is legalized it'll become like sugar in spice a rare commodity of the 18 century into an overexcesive household item.

Lets keep pot atleast some what luxurious. Keep it medical for sure but legalizing maybe for industrial purposes (ie hemp)

Never heard of the guy. If this stuff ever gets legalized, though, everyone's going to be walking around doped up.

Funny, if you believe people are not doped up already than you are very niave.

Maybe Christians are the majority because the US is predominantly Christian. But other countries other religions take the right and left sides.

Thats a fairly offensive view as to what Conservatives are about. But then again neither of us are american. Here in Canada I am Conservative but in the US I would be Democrat. Still I gotta say Conserving our countries laws, history etc...etc.. is really important to me.

But as I said in Canada I'm a card carrying Conservative but in the US I'd be Democrat. I think its sort of hard to stereo type all Conservatives or Democrats into bunchs. Politicians and voters all have their own opinions and people of all faiths and beliefs belong to all sides.

We're talking about the fact that right wingers in the US assume the identity of "Christian right", considering themselves to be the defenders of Christianity (and seemingly not understanding the concept separation of Church and State). It's obvious that there will be no "Christian right" in a predominantly Muslim country, but you can be sure that the right wing in thsoe countires is largely religious, and more often than not promoting theocracies.

It's conservatives who usually give great importnace to religion (I've never heard of a religious left).

As for my view of what conservatoves are about, well I'd say it's a pretty accurate view of conservatism. Note that I did not take into consideration stances on certain local political and economic issues, and simply stated a view about the basic characteristics of a conservative person and his/her personality and way of thinking.

Conservatives want to "conserve", and any "change" they ever want is nothing more than regression to the old days which they view as a mythical time when everything was perfect. Conservatives view that anything new, unknown, different from the status quo is bad, dangerous, evil, and needs to be surpressed and eliminated.

Conservatives don't care about the well-being of people, they care about the well-being of a traditional societal structure which should be maintained at all costs (they view it as a living entity, although it's merely a cultural construct made up by humans), despite the fact that the world is constantly changing (or better yet our knowledge of the world, because despite what conservatives think many things are unknown to us, including the big questions about the world that traditional "wisdom" has not answered, but merely provided made-up answers like religion to make people feel better and more secure), and that we need to awknoledge the changes and adapt to them constantly.

As for the fact that you'd be a Democrat if you lived in the US, well let's just leave political parties out of this. See, a party's ideology depends on that pf the majority of it's members. Democrats used to be very conservative in the past (think 19th century), while current day Repiblicans are nothing like Republicans a century ago. Also, very few mainstream parties in developed countries are as right wind as the Republicans in the US.

Funny Conservative's are all christian but all the bills that they should support because thats what jesus would do. They can't stand and fight them at all costs. I think conservatives are anti christians in disguise. I am agnostic and not a republican either but I just think people are blind to not see this.

health care for everyone - no

911 hero's - no because it would raise taxes for out of country corperations  that pay less then in land corperations. thats why most companies have offshore accounts. That was why they shot it down in the first place. These companies gave money to replicans to lobby against the bill. Can you believe that.  Hero's of america needed are help and it came down to greed.

Stem cell Research- no

everything that would help the poor and sick- no

It's all greed with them and pretty much everyone in washington. What a joke.

So legalize MJ all ready and bring some work and money into the ecconomy.

Yea where do you live? Most people are stoned but have eyedrops and don't act like the stereotypical pot heads in the movies. People Know how to hide it and can act normal just as any other person. Plus, most people can get fired or whatever else, so they diguise it very well. I bet you talked to a ton of people that where stoned and could not tell the difference.

I totally agree with chocoloco.

Marijuana is less addictive than alcohol and nicotine (which is in tabacco). Also, marijuana doesn't cause cancer, smoking causes cancer (in other words the way you administer he substance is dangerous, not the substance itself). Alcohol is much more dangerous than marijuana, and that's been legal and encouraged for centuries.

http://www.marijuana-addiction.info/Marijuana_Side_Effects.htm---- that's simply not true at all.

Quoting an anti-drug propaganda article now?

I got the same speech at an anti-drug class in high school. Most of them are overexaggerated (full info not being revealed) and are side effects also present after consuming alcohol or smoking tabacco ciggarets.

The addiction side effect is a flat out lie, as marijuana has been found to be less addictive than both alcohol and nicotine (which is actually twice as addicitve as marijuana).

All that info is very biased and most likely tampered for personal or gov. gain.

Hey everything on fox news is all fact as well! A lot stuff is straight biased bull. You got to see the logic in it or who gains to see the information turn out in there favor.

What did they prove, nothing. ALL just scary talk and actually my uncle had cancer and the docter told him on the side that MJ is the safest drug and if it helps him get through, he see's no problem with it. Hey was able to eat from smoking which before that he could not getting the therapy. Guess what? he won the battle with cancer and maybe that is what did it.

NONE OF THAT NONSENSE I READ ON THAT ARTICLE HAS BEEN PROVEN. Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 different chemicals.

At least 50 are known carcinogens (cause cancer in humans) and many are poisonous

Marijuana contains about 400-500 chemicals that are very different from cigerattes and also have never been proven to give anyone cancer or any kind of health issue. Actually it seems to help more then it hurts you.

here is a article about how THC can help. I can fill up 20 pages giving you info on the good it does if not more.

http://www.webmd.com/cancer/brain-cancer/news/20090401/marijuana-chemical-may-fight-brain-cancer

April 1, 2009 -- The active chemical in marijuana promotes the death of brain cancer cells by essentially helping them feed upon themselves, researchers in Spain report.

Guillermo Velasco and colleagues at Complutense University in Spain have found that the active ingredient in marijuana, THC, causes brain cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy. Autophagy is the breakdown of a cell that occurs when the cell essentially self-digests.

The team discovered that cannabinoids such as THC had anticancer effects in mice with human brain cancer cells and people with brain tumors. When mice with the human brain cancer cells received the THC, the tumor growth shrank.

Two patients enrolled in a clinical trial received THC directly to the brain as an experimental treatment for recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, a highly aggressive brain tumor.  Biopsies taken before and after treatment helped track their progress.  After receiving the THC, there was evidence of increased autophagy activity.

The findings appear in the April 1 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The patients did not have any toxic effects from the treatment. Previous studies of THC for the treatment of cancer have also found the therapy to be well tolerated, according to background information in journal article.

Study authors say their findings could lead to new strategies for preventing tumor growth.

here is another.  you want more proof.

" marijuana doesn't cause cancer, smoking causes cancer"???   errr, one smokes marijauna. It alters the mind faster than alcohol. I am against smoking, but alcohol in with moderation is harmless.

Hey Listen!

It should just stay illegal. Alcohol doesn't do any harm if you drink it in moderation. The second you smoke it kills brain cells. I do see lots of pluses for the economy though.
