Did he just compare Black Ops to Avatar? To be frank, I found both to be quite mediocre and overtired franchises. Quite depressing to see the markets limited to mammoths such as that.

Avatar is a franchise?

Black Ops won't even come close to Avatar in terms of revenue.it will be lucky to do HALF the money Avatar brought in.

No but it's concept was ridiculously overdone and tired, so might as well be, I think someone even used a primary school story template to show how the director came up with it. Really beyond the visuals there is nothing "unique" about it.

The same could be said of the Harry Potter movies (very simple tired old kiddie cliches for a story), but I'm guessing since those are politically correct suddeenly you'll take offense.

At $60 a game, by my accounting Blops has sold (shipped?) 16.66 million copies now?

Of course higher priced special edition sales will bring that number down...then again any black friday type sales  where the price was less than $60 might bring it back up...surprised Activision/MS didn't do another COD bundle console (that could have really spiked revenue if counted at $400 a pop).

I don't like Harry Potter either but there was no mention of it in the article so I decided not to mention it, but it's even more of a cliche franchise than the two of those combined.

By the way there is like no way to account how many copies were sold, even estimations would probably be way off as the PC and Wii versions are about $10-20 cheaper than the HD

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

PC and Wii versions didn't sell too much...but yeah it's not exact, just something to plasy around with and get a general idea.

Holy shit...

I wonder how much of that 1 Billon came from X360 sales alone...

You have no idea how well the PC version has done, quite a few million at least, including the digital sales on Steam(Which I think you can buy, but are not tracked on here)

eh? lol.

Well that's what people have been saying this generation so is must be true! Also, 360 breaks and PS3 has no games.

for anyone interested CNBC recently published an article (Dec 20th I believe)on Activision and Kottick and their plans for monetizing online gaming.  It was an interesting read on where Kottick sees the industry heading.  I personally think he is headed in the wrong direction and is spending too much time trying to figure out how to use micro transactions to off set lack of revenue.  I'd like to see focus on a monthly subscription for games like COD that have truly become MMOFPS.
