Forums - Gaming - Developer Confirms Kinect Is Coming To PC

"the game's support of gaming pads make it resemble console games even more"

Why on earth would I want that?! I play PC games because they are not console games.

awsome, right on.

To many people buy into the motion control hype-train. Not I though, it's a waste of money. Kinect is the worst one. If you don't like dancing games, this thing, this monstrocity is a huge waste of money and time. Move is the best, because it's a Wii-Mote, but better, much better. But the Wii is much better in terms of use. They just have to many games, and quite a few are good. In my opinion, the Kinect is the least immersive toy by the 3 companies. A controller makes you feel attached to something. Flailing your arms about isn't very immersive. You just feel like an idiot. You might think it's fun or funny, but not immersive. Sorry. Especially with the bad lag and non 1:1 tracking. I don't know why Kinect is popular, it has no games or support. Stunning!

They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Wii balance board is great for snow boarding. Shaun white snowboarding was better on the balance board then with regular controls. Hopefully ssx deadly descent will use it too.

Wii motion plus is good for movements that don't require too much accuracy but you get to stand, sit, dance anywhere you like without worrying about coffee tables, camera placement, lighting etc.

Move is great for anything you do with your hands, table tennis, sword fighting, placing blocks (tumble) Not so great for sports where you don't hold anything (volleyball)

Kinect is great for dancing games and kicking soccer balls (hard to do with wii and move unless you strap the controller to your leg)

Kinect seems the most limited atm for possible games. The biggest problem is moving around. Using it as a pointing device doesn't work all that great either since you need big movements not just turning your wrist as with the wiimote.

Ironically heavy rain and kung fu live would be most immersive with kinect. Ofcourse you would still need a navigation controller for heavy rain, and tbh I haven't tried heavy rain yet with the move. The added motion controls do not suddenly make it a different game I have to play again.

Anyway I'm not paying 200 bucks for kinect to kick a few soccer balls around. (And wouldn't pay 50 bucks for kung fu live either) Waiting for some interesting software to come out.

As far as heavy rain goes, using move doesn't make the experience for me any more enjoyable and has it's own caveats.

The thing about Kinect is that I do see an opportunity for something totally different then the games I have been playing for over 30 years.  Just looking at a lot of proof of concepts tell me that their will be some very innovative games coming to Kinect.  The device is selling enough to get publishers and developers interest. By this time next year, I expect to see some really cool Kinect games because developers really seem excited about doing something with the device.

If Ms lets developers use it as an add-on to the standard controller it can be great to enhance immersion. Add simple headtracking to an fps, not the kind where you rotate your head, but where the view is adjusted according to the position of your head, to simulate you looking through a window. Useful to peak around corners and peer over ledges. Manipulate keypads with your hands and pick up and use certain objects. (while standing still) Fun but not essential.

I don't think it will add much in forza 4. Walking around your car, not interested. Headtracking in racing is a bit off putting, hard to hold the racing line when your viewpoint is shifting. Everytime I look into a corner in GT5 I nearly go off the track :/

I don't think voice recognition is ready yet, but it would be great to actually be able to talk back to characters in mass effect for example.

I'm sure some developers will come up with some very interesting puzzle games for kinect.  However I'm afraid the whole you are the controller thing is not going much further then what we have now, you standing in a relatively small area or stuck on rails.

We'll see next christmas. Please let it not all be kinect sports resort, kinectimals 2, dance central 2.
