Im alone in this but it would have been better for me if Square-Enix published it in America but I take it anyway

No, the fact that Nintendo is publishing it, means that Square Enix refused to and Nintendo needed something for its release schedule.

It really says a bit about where Square Enix's mind set in the western region in regards to its RPGs, when it seems like the only thing that will touch our shores are Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts games.

Not necessarily. I think a liklier scenario is that Square-Enix and Nintendo have a publishing agreement. Nintendo widens the appeal in the West, and Square-Enix keeps the series on Nintendo systems. It's win-win for both companies.

Really, Nintendo? Have those ridiculous advertisements for DQIX really made tween girls the intended demographic for Dragon Quest games outside of Japan now?

Oh, and this better come to Europe soon as well. We clearly like the series better.

Nintendo's almost certainly going to be the one to localise here in Europe as well.  S-E said a while ago that a European release was 'not on the cards right now' (I can't be arsed to find the news story now, but if you google it one can probably find it quickly). I just wonder how Nintendo are going to market it, because they can't market VI like they did IX - like a dressing up simulator.

I really hope DQIX's sales in Europe mean we don't get screwed over when it comes to RPGs anymore.

There's a huge demographic for Dragon Quest and a number of other JRPGs in the West actually and I hope Nintendo attempts to sell these games to them rather than Trojan Horsing it to people who'll buy the game, throw it away after less than an hour of play and never look toward the series again.

And I doubt DQIX will make much of a difference for RPGs in general. For the DQ series it might (which would be more than enough for me, :D), but I doubt it has created much of a market for the genre in Europe.

But it did sell well in Europe, which is reason to make more.

I don't think that it has really inspired any interest in the JRPG genre here. I mean, FF's been huge here for a while there now, but that didn't make much of a difference - DQ and other JRPG's continually failed in that region. Whilst this could be great for DQ (and it could finally end up getting the 10m sales it deserves worldwide, :P), I doubt that this will make future JRPGs any better received here.

That's not the point. Markets aren't made solely by breakthrough games. Markets are also made by loads of games that just build up support over time.

I know this is kind of off topic, but surely to almost ensure that a JRPG sells well in Europe, NoE just need to advertise it as a follow-on from Pokemon.  Pokemon D/P have sold something like 5m here in Europe and people seem to forget that Pokemon is an RPG of the most 'hardcore' kind (IVs, EVs, etc).

I remember Nintendo advertising Prof Layton like it was a spiritual sequel to Brain Training and just look at it's sales in Europe compared to the rest of the world.

I don't think this will get much advertisement. They'll probably go the "never released classic" route, but I really don't see Nintendo giving this nearly as much attention as IX got. X will probably have a  massive campaign, though.

I have a feeling Dragon Quest X will be cell-shaded for Wii. It's the game that will Save the Wii in Japan.

Well, what other JRPG has been doing alright recently in the region? (This is an actual question, mind you, I don't keep track of JRPGs save for Pokemon/DQ)

I don't think that'll quite work - most Pokemon fans love the concept more than the gameplay. They buy the games because they're Pokemon, not because they're turn based/awesome. Having humans (or Celestrians) instead will make the game completely different for some people. Besides, lots of kids who play Pokemon don't or can't buy 12 games.

I don't think that was the case with Brain Training.
